It was a good plot, but there were things I wished could have been different. I didn't think the romance was all that great. They went an awful long time before they even acknowledged a mutual attraction and then Alec was just going to walk away. I didn't feel a burning passion for either of them.
I liked the story, but didn't love it. As Anita mentioned, there wasn't much romantic interaction between Alec and Regan until the last 100 pages. They seemed friendly with each other, but not like they were falling in love. I enjoyed the suspense story, but didn't like the reason behind Eric Gage's plan to kill Regan. I didn't think we had enough facts to figure out exactly who the villain was or why he was killing people. This was a weak part of the story for me.
I agree, the romance was a little weak, though I really liked both Regan and Alec. I wrote in my review: It just didn't fit that 2 fully grown adults can't have a conversation about the possibility of moving forward together rather than apart. And Alec leaves her behind even though he doesn't believe they really have the killer? It just doesn't sit right with me.
Leaving her unguarded didn't sit well with me either.

I loved this story. I agree with Sandra this time. It made sense to me that Alec fought the attraction. He was on the job. He accepted another position in another state, and Regan was vulnerable with everything going on in her life. Alec is a professional above all else. It wasn't that long from the time they met until they "fell in love," so it was believable for me.
I loved the conversation with Noah. I hope he has a book, and the Buchanans can tease him for all the times he razzed them. I feel that Noah will fall hard when love hits him.
Hi Sharon, I read and enjoyed all of your updates. I'm rethinking my initial opinion that the romance was a little weak. That Alec fought his attraction because of professional requirements and to protect Regan shows his strength of character. I guess it wasn't until the end when that professional requirement was over that I started to think the romance was weak. But there was still the fact that he was leaving.
I felt the romance could have been stronger. I get the conflict Alec had over his professional behavior and the fact he was leaving, but I felt like Regan was pursuing him.
Jessica, I see why you felt the romance was weak. However, for me the focus of the story was the who, what, and why of the crime. Anita, A little more at the end would be nice, but I didn't care that much. I liked the epilogue. Regan was pursuing Alec, but that doesn't change his plans. He couldn't go back to Chicago PD. His boss hates him. He knows Regan has a job she loves. He had to get to the place where he could ask her to join him.

It's probably me, but i cant help compare the books to Mercy. Coz if the romance and the mystery can be balanced and developed the way it was in that one , then why not here? The book constantly felt like it was missing "that" something that makes a book fun and memorable... I kept waiting for the book to live up to the potential it promised...
