i didn't read it but my mom did. waaay too much sex apperantly. and i read a bit-*puts finger to lips* shh! don't tell my mother!-and it was terrible.DON'T READ IT
Invader zims right. And besides, the plot is just really convoluted whereas the musical is more simple. Fiyero dies in the book, Boq is sooo annoying, and there's too much weird backstory about elphabas family. But basically, I feel like Greg maguire took a good concept and made it on-purpose too inappropriate

oooo.
I take your word for it.
I still think I'm going to read it, but it's not all that high up on my list right now. Thanks for the answers, people!
So, what songs from Wicked do you guys like?

"defying gravity" "the wizard and i" "for good" and that one that fiyero and elphaba sing...i cant think of it off the top of my head!
And "What Is This Feeling?"! That was the first song I ever heard!
Do you know any of the songs by heart?

I tried to read the book once, and I actually got pretty far in it... I really liked the first half, the characters seemed interesting and the story grabbed me, but then in the second half the story slowed down and the characters started annoying me, and I didn't finish it. I mean to try reading it again some time, to see what I think of it now. I like that the musical seems to make more of Elphaba and Glinda's friendship, the book didn't really use all the potential there was. Otherwise I can't compare too much because I've never seen the musical (only heard recordings) and haven't read all of the book.
I'm going to read the book, I'm really curious. Although, I know it's a LOT different from the musical ... ah well. Wicked is my favorite musical XD
YAY!I'm listening to the soundtrack for the first time(on youtube), because im thinking about seeing it for my birthday.. but i should listen to the music first.. lol! XD
I've listened through the cast recording a couple times. I got it a few months ago. I like "What is this feeling" the best, although that might be because it was the first song I ever heard from the show.

I have Popular, Defying Gravity, and What is This Feeling? memorized by heart, and I've only been listening to them for the past week and a half. I need to see the musical. =[

You'll get to see it eventually. :D
Defying Gravity is great too, and I really love Wonderful. Popular isn't one of my favorites, but it still gets stuck in my head a lot. XD

I need to put the whole soundtrack on my iPod... that... doesn't... exist.. anymore... nevermind! Haha. But once I get one, I'm going to download the entire soundtrack and listen to it until I know it by heart. XD
there's a BOOK??? *shocked*
I wanted to see the play SOO bad because I love Indina Menzel.
So it's based on a book?? Right. I'm smart.

My friend read the book and really enjoyed it, and my school librarian read the book and also saw the musical on Broadway and apparently the musical was way better.
I don't think I've ever known anyone who likes the book better. I checked out a wiki summary of it, and it seems a lot darker than the musical. I'm still going to read it eventually, though, since I'm really interested to compare the two.
I'm not sure but I'd imagine it's more that the book fans and the musical fans are different people because the book and the musical are so different. From what I remember there are lots of book fans who don't like the musical because they think it's too light and fluffy or didn't do justice to the story in the book, etc.
I'm not a big fan of either so I can't really tell you, but some day I should probably try to both finish the book and see the musical. :P

That sounds pretty likely. I just haven't met any of these book fans. I don't have many friends who like darker stuff, so most of my friends who are familiar with both prefer the musical.
