Hmm... I have been reading since I was a little kid but I got into Goodreads etc. and actually paying attention to book recs and what was popular about when I read the Mortal Instruments, or maybe Divergent? I can't remember :)
I always loved reading ever since I was a child but the book that made me get into booktok was the Spanish love deception. looking back, I really liked their dynamic so I started looking for more books like it and eventually read a lot more booktok books :)
It isn't the first book l read but l stared liking books and developing a hobby for it ever since l read the Inheritance Games, for anyone who hasn't read it yet l would really reallyy recommend!
I was forced to go to a book fair and bought One of us is lying because I said: "Hmm why not? It looks interesting" The rest is history
No offense but I’m really judging the ppl saying it ends with us 😭😭 I hope you regret reading it tho

beach read by emily henry, it was the first book i read after a long book slump and it got me back into reading :)
The book that got me into reading was Princess Academy by Shannon Hale but Booktok was probably Percy Jackson
even though it has very bad reviews but “people we meet on vacation” was the book that got me into all the booktok haste. it was also because my closest friends at the time started getting into books but it was still the first book i read in that era.now that i read better books, whenever i think about this book, the first word that comes to mind is boredom.
maybe i was romanticizing it way too much but for some reason i wanted to convince people reading was fun, so i actually gaslighted myself to continue the book.
the whole the summer i turned pretty series was what got me into reading again. I'm planning to re-read it this year, but I'm scared it won't be as good as I remember because I have read so many 5-star books since.
I've gotten into reading through audiobooks, though I hadn't been able to finish those yet. I was/am reading The invisible life of Addy Larue and Shades of Magic, both by V.E. Schwab. The series that made me finish an actual book again, recommended to me by a friend, was Ice Planet Barbarians. And I'm not even mad at it.
Punk 57 and the love hypothesis. I’ve been reading since 2nd grade, but these books got me into booktok
