Claire (clairemm) | 1 comments Hi, I'm Claire! I love reading mysteries, thrillers, queer lit, contemporary fiction about unhinged women, poetry, and nonfiction (mainly about science/medicine/psychology). I love writing honest reviews and would like to request a book or two to review for ya. Print copies only please, I can't focus on a screen or to a voice for too long.

Logan Macnair (loganmacnair) Might not be up your alley but my new book came out a few days ago - Troll. Fair warning, it's a little troubling content-wise but if you're interested you can DM me and I'll send you one.

George Veck | 19 comments Hi Clare,

I have just released my third book Ogwen Blues and looking for reviews please :) It's a psychological family drama, a 35k word novella. If it piques your interest, I have it available in epub or pdf form, just drop me a message if so.

Best regards,

George Veck

Up in the mountains of Bethesda, North Wales, Colin Tudur, a fifty-year-old football referee has endured a pitiful, people-pleasing existence. Finally chasing his dream, he commits to full-time training, quitting his job as a bin-man, one day dreaming of reffing on S4C. This far from serves his parasitic, coercive wife Clare and stepson Dale, who have both long grown dependent on his salary. Thwarted in his pursuit of freedom by North Wales' second-home owner induced housing shortage, twenty-year-old Dale wallows within the confines of Colin's isolated, mountain-top farm cottage. Freshly expelled from college, unemployable, and broken by his family's toxic, co-dependent grooming, drug addiction steps in to fill his sorrow shaped hole. When a chance arises to enter the dealing game, a stab at ending this nightmare, he grips it with both hands, dragging a host of issues to the family's door.

Vivenne Mercer | 6 comments Melody in Silence

Hi Claire,

Well, what a delightful assortment of genres you have there! And may I say, 'unhinged women' gave me a chuckle. As an author, I live for such eccentricity in reading preferences.

Speaking of which, I have a novel, "Melody in Silence," which seems to check some of your boxes. It's a mystery, with a smart and determined (if not a bit unhinged by her own persistence) female lead, Detective Alex Morgan, navigating her way through a complex web of deceit and secrets.

Given your love for mysteries and thrillers, I believe "Melody in Silence" might find a good home in your reading list. If this tickles your literary taste buds and you'd be interested in taking a look, do let me know. The detective in my story could use a savvy reader like you on her side!

Best,
Vivenne Mercer

Edward Tagg | 1 comments Rosebud Unfurled

Hi Claire,

Although it's the second in an anthology series of novels (not tied by plot, but by the general themes and world itself), I've just released, today, a novel that might fit the "unhinged women" and psychological part for you, with a lot of confusion and delusion on the theme of drug-induced paranoia! 'Rosebud Unfurled'! It's at 135k words, at 408 pages. Hopefully you're interested!

Kind regards,
Ed Tagg

Kelan fell without pride. For some, however, the war never ended.

Lucinda Hartwell has spent half her life in a political prison, unable to remember why she’d been incarcerated. Life has dulled itself into a ruthless cycle of miserable labour, and the loveless company of abuse, pain and neglect. That is until a foreign military officer arrives at her cell with a proposal.

Freedom – at the cost of a single tour of service; to be trained and deployed under the banner of the elusive AOC-SICC, an auxiliary, paramilitary group declared independent of national ideologies and interests, at least officially. Under hopeless temptation, she is to be deployed to an infant nation of refuge: Valania – the birthchild of Kelan’s most loyal wartime subjects, and the traumatised desire to rally support against Ferusian influence.

Dejection and horror welcome her with open arms, as does another woman: the body of Valania itself.
---------------
ROSEBUD UNFULRED - an estranged journey of a faceless woman, during uncivil disorder. Follow further into the world of Farhawl, two decades after the events of the debut STAND TO RESIST, and the Feruso-Kelan War. Through the eyes of a misguided soul, journey with her past the veil of sanity. For across the sea, in Valania and its civil war, Lucinda may have found herself entrenched in a damning programme, testing the limits of morality.

Book Blurb:

** Mackenzie always knew she was a werewolf. She grew up listening to her adoptive mom’s stories about her birth parents, their incredible love story, and the attack that killed them. As she discovers more about this magical world and all the legends that really do exist, she finds herself in terrible danger. To save herself, she must put her trust in people she only just met.

Aiden has known about Mackenzie his whole life, and for almost 30 years, she’s been only a story to the pack. But when they meet, she’s not quite what he expected. The pull he feels toward her, the instant attraction, nearly knocks him off his feet.

But happily, ever after is far from reachable for them. With danger at every turn, they race to find the answers to questions long forgotten. With the clock running out, can these two find the time to get to know each other as fate intended? Or will their enemies rip them apart?

C.W. Lovatt (cwlovatt) | 75 comments Hi, I'm looking for reviews for my latest novel, "Yuri & the Pig," due out tomorrow, Sept 1. It's a fictional story based on the current war in Ukraine. If your interested, contact me at clovatt@xplornet.ca and I'll have my publisher send you a copy. Thank you.

C.W. Lovatt (cwlovatt) | 75 comments Hi,

I’m looking for reviews for my latest book, “Yuri & the Pig” (87,000 words published by Wild Wolf Publishing), a work of fiction based on the current war in Ukraine. However, the countries involved are fictitious, too.

Amazon link: https://mybook.to/ynp

The following is the blurb:

“From the best-selling author of the Charlie Smithers adventures.

A farmer and his pig set off on an extraordinary quest across war-torn Eastern Europe.

Entangled in a savage war, the country of Xoraina is fighting for its very existence; but to Yuri, a simple peasant from a remote mountain village, it seems all but certain that the invading Zlaimperians must ultimately prevail. Not that it is of any consequence to him, of course. In Yuri’s view, every form of government is equally bad, so it makes very little difference who holds the reins of power. Indeed, throughout time, the only things that have ever really mattered are that the soil be tilled, the cows milked, and the pigs shipped to market, all in a timely fashion.

But when an exorbitant new tax threatens that philosophy, he sets off with his pig across the war-ravaged land to the Capital in order to fight the injustice. In the process, their journey becomes a road to a terrible enlightenment, causing Yuri to question his deeply seated beliefs. But only when he and his pig find themselves placed squarely in destiny’s path is there any hope of those questions finding answers.”

If interested, please contact me at clovatt@xplornet.ca and I’ll arrange for you to receive an e-copy in the format you prefer.

Thank you for your time.

Katherine Morgan | 10 comments Hi Claire, I have a young adult speculative thriller coming out in October and am looking for ARC reviewers for it. I can send an ePub of an ARC in a few days if you are interested. Thanks,

Title: The Bycatch Principle

Author: Kath Morgan

ARCs to be sent: September 28th, 2023
Release date: October 15, 2023
Word count: Approximately 77,000 words
Requested sites to post reviews: Amazon and Goodreads plus anywhere else
Trigger warnings: Some violence, some swearing, some alcoholism, some reference to underaged sex.

Blurb:
On a lonely moor, an isolated security complex hides a dirty secret. After six years of being held captive without charge, fifteen-year-old David Jessop is forced to make a desperate strike for freedom. Somebody wants to hide the truth. Somebody wants him dead. Just what is the Unit? In order to survive, David must discover why the Unit exists and the real reason he was taken all those years ago. Alone and on the run, he needs answers. Fast.

The Bycatch Principle is a speculative young adult thriller with strong adult crossover appeal. Based in the very near future, it has been described as The Minority Report for young adults, and explores themes of labelling, identity and belonging. Set partly in London and partly in Cornwall, The Bycatch Principle tells the story of a young man who discovers the value of family and friendship and the transformative power of the ocean.
