Prodigal Summer is listed as being set in Kentucky, but I believe it is set in Virginia. I am working on a challenge to read books set in different states so I was paying very close attention once I realize the setting listed was incorrect.
The current Setting is listed as Egg Fork, Zebulon County, Kentucky, Kentucky, Appalachia. This needs to be changed to Egg Fork, Zebulon County, Virginia, Virginia, Appalachia.
Egg Fork, Zebulon County is a fictional place and the author never specifically states the story takes place in Virginia but here are several examples for why is it Virginia and not Kentucky.
- In the Acknowledgments at the beginning of the book, Kingsolver states "This novel grew from soil richly blessed by my Virginia friends and neighbors." - It is definitely set in the Appalachian Mountains but most other states can be eliminated: - A character mentions they had recently been in West Virginia. - The border with Tennessee is mentioned. - "a storm rolling in from Kentucky" - Many of the plants mentioned have Virginia as part of their name - Characters mention visiting Virginia Beach
