Is TOG actually worth the hype, or is it just ACOTAR but with different characters?

Maya who? | 6 comments Yes it’s a LOT of character and world building good romance and can get slow sometimes but by the time you get to the last book… Everything is worth it you won’t be ble to put it down. It has one of the best scenes ever written. You will not stop thinking about it. Especially knowing that all of Sarah j mass books come together.

Karsyn | 611 comments Definitely a different plot than ACOTAR! You'll certainly see some personality similarities to characters in her other books (gotta have the tall, grumpy, alpha-hole right!?), and names of places/things/people that seem similar. But, yes definitely worth it! And so is her newer series, Crescent City. You won't be disappointed, especially if you love ACOTAR.

AC's | 411 comments Y'all convinced me!
I love ACOTAR and I'm a bit afraid to let it go, but I'm ready to start a new story and see a new world.
I'll surely buy it, then, thanks a lot! ❤️

Oh, I'm enjoying it a little too much, I can't believe I have to wait for God knows how long for a next one.
I'll surely keep you updated! One more question, tho: CC or TOG, which series is better in your opinion?

I know, I'm sorry! 😭

Well, let's put it in another way, then: will you recommend me to start TOG or CC first?

(Even if I know I'll read them all anyway!)

(here's my long winded answer 😂)

Personally, I read CC immediately after I finished ACOTAR... and then I proceeded to re-read the first book a-whole-nother 2 times through before the second book had even been announced! 😂 I was thoroughly obsessed. (Frankly, it could just be a standalone, and I would still be obsessed with that book alone.) Then I read TOG, and all of SJMs worlds were just taking over my mind. Each book of that series gets better than the last. You can really see her writing style develop and improve throughout the course of it. (I got so immersed and invested by the middle of this series, that I literally started a note on my phone with all of the reasons I thought that SJM was leading up to some sort of crossover event between the three series.)

What I will say though, is CC is not a completed series yet. So, if you're looking for a completed SJM series, I would say go with TOG. Plus, with how the second book of CC ends, (I'm trying to say this in the least spoilery way I can, but it's a major cliff hanger) you may want to go through TOG first!

Okay, okay. Now I'm more confused than ever 😭

All joking aside, I really appreciate your help (from both of you). I'll go with TOG first and I'll let you know how it goes!

Karsyn | 611 comments I had a feeling my long winded answer wouldn't have helped 💀
long story short... you can't go wrong either way! I think going with TOG first as of right now though is a great idea.

If I may, I also recommend this as a reading order of the series:
1. Throne of Glass
2. Crown of Midnight
3. Assassin's Blade (some people read this first because the events are a prequel, but I recommend reading it third!)
4. Heir of Fire (+bonus scene from this book)
5. Queen of Shadows
6. Empire of Storms
7. Tower of Dawn
8. Kingdom of Ash

This was the order recommended to me and I was obsessed! I don't think I'd ever re-read it any other way and I always recommend this too.

Damn, girl, you're an angel.
I must be honest: I wanted to ask it, but I've bothered you enough already.

Thanks a lot for your precious help, really, I'll treasure it and make sure to read them as you recommended!

Thanks a lot again!

Def YES ! that book will go beyond your expectations trust me ! but i would highly recommend not to read reviews or anything for spoilers. It was the first fantasy romance book I picked up and it made me fall in love.

Totally, yes!

I must admit I was reluctant to read it at first, due to some reviews, but I'm actually glad I bought all the book of the series.

I honestly recommend it to you!

Highly recommend! My older sister said the same thing for about a year and a half, that fantasy wasn't her thing. Earlier this month she finally gave acotar a shot and now she's on book #2 and totally obsessed. I don't think you'd regret giving it a try at all!

message 25: by Emma (new)

Emma I'm currently on Book #4 and I can say it's worth the hype. There are definitely some common threads with ACOTAR, but the world is so different that it's not distracting. Fair warning though, I think you have to finish the first 2 books for things to get really good. Book 1 and 2 can come off really teenage and cringey at parts, which is fair since SJM was a teenager when she wrote the story
