I have a memoir that is fairly difficult to write structurally etc. More like in essays. I've had both professional editors and beta readers help with many of them. I am going through each one now making improvements.
The memoir focuses on my years traveling around the world and volunteering with monkeys, but the first few chapters deal more with the initial feelings post-college.
Example:
I struggled to find work all that fall. Partly, because I had no idea what to do next, having chosen not to go down a more linear path. My parents were no help on that front, as they were both professionals their whole adult lives. My mom had even stenciled those professions onto framed tapestry in the living room. Engineer, Nurse—I couldn’t even think of them without seeing their careers. But I couldn’t get myself to calmly plan a path towards a career; my gut dropped when I tried, and I saw the long slow years ahead. Nothing seemed worth it.
