It's time to nominate your choices for our next group classics read, this time for May and June 2023. For convenience, we at AAB are defining a 'classic' as a book that was first published 50 or more years ago, i.e. first published in 1973 or earlier.

Nominations will be run for 7 days and will close late on 16th April or as soon we hit six books in the poll. The poll will run for seven days when I will announce the winner shortly afterwards.

During this time anybody can nominate and second a book. The 6 books with the most second votes at the end of the 7 day nomination period will go into the poll. Each person can nominate one book and second one book each. There are no limits to the number of seconds a book can receive, although please be mindful as our polls do not fill up as quickly as they used to.

Please only nominate, second or vote for a book you will read with the group if it should win. Please also check that your chosen nomination hasn't been a group read in the past. You can do this by looking at the group bookshelf or browsing through the Group Fiction folder.

If you have any questions on the nominations process please post here, use the 'Ask the Moderators' thread or contact one of the moderators and we will be happy to help.

Yes, both great suggestions Tumbleweed Words and spoko!

I'll nominate A Lost Lady by Willa Cather. I haven't read that one yet, and I've enjoyed others by her.

I've only read 3 of the 5 this time, but it's been several years since I read any of them so that's nice!

I have always kept poetry separate but there hasn't been enough interest in poetry for me to add it in for monthly group reads.

I suggest that you start with a buddy read or two, Tumbleweed Words. If you generate enough interest in poetry discussion, then such a group read might be worth discussing. In the past, we had a moderator who was very interested in poetry and she actively led poetry discussions but participation was low even then.

If you wamt to do a buddy read of something, I'd join in.

We used to have a Monday Poem feature where each Monday some member of the group would choose a poem and share it and everyone who wanted to would comment on it. If you're willing to share a poem some weeks, we could try reviving that. Would you be interested in that?

That sounds interesting, I would be up for starting that again.

Great Jade, Tumbleweed Words, I'll set up a new Monday poem thread over the weekend. We'll start fresh so people can pick whatever poems they want, rather than having to go back through huge lists to see what poems have already been used. It's been years since then anyway.

If we want to keep it going, I'll need volunteers to pick poems for some Mondays so check out the threads once I set it up.

The new sign up thread is here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
