I wasn't enthusiastic about it at first, but barely set it down after starting it. Enjoy!

They decide to spend a summer creating a game, which eventually leads to them setting up a business together. They are the creative force but they are balanced by the practical presence of their close friend, Marx, who mediates when it's needed and i the glue that holds things together over the years.
This fascinating novel spans thirty years. The narrative alternates between Sadie and Sam's points of view and shows how they came together to build something that is more than the sum of its parts.
The book’s strengths lie in its unforgettable characters. The characters are rich and interesting and the story has twists and unexpected turns. It's definitely a novel about friendship, particularly that rare, miraculous friendship where you may drift away from time to time but come back together in a comfortable way.
Readers don’t need to know much about video games to enjoy this book but if you were a gamer during that time it will obviously add to your enjoyment. There is also a lot of 80s, 90s, and early 2000s pop culture references mixed in.
The writing was exceptional and I felt totally immersed in the characters’ lives. This is a layered and complex story that wasn't necessarily an easy read. I thought it needed quicker pacing at times but it was one of those rare books that I hated to put down. I read late into the night because I didn't want this world to end. Although the plot wanders a bit on the way to its final destination, it does get there eventually, and the destination is tender, poignant, and emotionally satisfying.
