Is it important to read Shadows between us before Six of crows?

I'm confused bcz a person wrote a review saying how they didn't quite get six of crows bcz they didn't read shadow between us series before that. So do u need to read it or you can just start fresh with six of crows?

I read six of crows before shadow and bone, it was a bit confusing at the start (but all fantasy books are really). There are references to characters from shadow and bone in six of crows but it definitely can be read without reading shadow and bone.

Six of crows is a lot better than shadow and bone anyway :)
