Bretnie | 838 comments Welcome to our discussion of Lean Fall Stand, by Jon McGregor.

Who else is joining us for the discussion, and is this your first book by McGregor, or have you read any of his others?

I read a few interviews about the book, but they all have some spoilers, so for now, I'll just keep this thread light!

Kathy | 24 comments I will be joining in for this discussion. First book by McGregor. First book discussion I have joined in.

Welcome, Kathy!

I will be joining in. I previously read Reservoir 13, which was a previous group read which I thought was fantastic.

I hope to find time for a reread, but will follow the discussion anyway. I have read all of McGregor's fiction and this one is in my top three. He never really does the same thing twice.

Suzy (goodreadscomsuzy_hillard) | 168 comments I read this last October and loved it, as I did Reservoir 13. It is burned in my brain, so not feeling the need to reread, but will be interested to discuss in more detail in the other thread.

Bretnie | 838 comments Glad to have everyone!

Mark | 497 comments I'm in, thanks to my library. The first few chapters are reminiscent of a short story I read.

Bretnie | 838 comments Excellent Marc! I’m curious to hear more over in the general thread once you get through the first part, “Lean.”

Mark | 497 comments About that short story, this thread might be more appropriate than the book thread. I remember a lot of the plot, but I have NO idea of the author or title. If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it. It takes place on an isolated observation station in the south Atlantic. The staff of one is very comfortable with the situation, until the last supply ship of the season drops off a very opinionated birder to "share" the winter. Friction mounts, as our narrator anticipates the winter storms that will force the two of them inside for months together. The weather is breezing up, and the birder wants to go out for a last look around. Over the building wind, our narrator says "I wouldn't go out there if I were you." Birder goes out. The rest of the winter is quiet.

Doesn't ring a bell but sounds fascinating! I like your summary :)
