Thank you so much for the offer. Can I interest you in an MG horror novel? Here's the book's query.
THE MAGISTER’S MANSION is a 46,000 word MG horror/dark fantasy novel.
If there’s anything thirteen year-old Eylem hates more than slumber parties, it’s the people who attend them. Annoyed, bored and out of snacks, she tricks her friends into a devilish dare in hopes of some action.
Having entered the weird old house where she is dared to break-in, she discovers the crooked building is a vile house of horrors. There, she encounters The Magister; a half-octopus man who puts her to sleep and cuts her into pieces. When she wakes, Eylem finds herself as a single head without a body and learns that her limbs are all scattered around in the lower levels of the dungeon, where different creatures lurk and lay claim to them.
She must use her wits to outsmart the creatures, reclaim her missing body parts, and face her traumas before finding a way out of the dungeon, all while endeavoring to hold on to her sanity and, maybe, learning how to be a better person.
THE MAGISTER’S MANSION is a grim critique/assessment of fairytales’ oppressive nature, featuring a character who is gallant enough to challenge not only monsters, but grown men as well. It’s planned to be the first installment in a trilogy. The comp titles are RULES FOR VANISHING (Kate Alice Marshall), THE CIRCUS OF STOLEN DREAMS (Lorelei Savaryn), and NIGHTBOOKS (J. A. White).
I am a Turkish writer, translator, and illustrator, mostly working on children’s literature and in the video game industry. My works have been published thrice in my home country. This script won third prize in a major Turkish publishing house named TUDEM’s horror-themed competition but never got published. I have also made plenty of illustrations to accompany this book and hope to share them with you.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Cordially,
Ali Benice

I have a contemporary novel at 158k words. If you'd like to look at only a few chapters at a time, that's fine.
Blurb:
One morning in a coffee shop, Alex is beside himself to meet Pete Shehann, whom it seems has some experience in the very subject of which he is a self-proclaimed enthusiast. Reluctant yet prompted, Pete shares his story, beginning with how his father abandoned him as a child in rural 1930s Oklahoma, leaving him embittered and believing himself a failure, proven time and again. And marrying May couldn’t be luck at all but a fluke, even if she has her own problems. After losing all of her family in a tragic accident, a terrible void remains, and she wants children more than anything.
An unexpected inheritance raises suspicions yet sends Pete and May to a new life in Oregon, where they meet Stevens, the attorney handling the inheritance and proving himself a faithful friend in the years to come. But a tragedy that happened on their journey haunts Pete, eventually conforming to an eerie parallel with May after her health fails following the negative results of an infertility test. It greatly disturbs Pete to discover he isn’t even enough for his own wife to want to live, but he determines to do whatever it takes to save her. And what of himself? Is he destined a lifetime of failure?
I look forward to hearing from you.

Lillian Marsh is a dedicated lady’s maid and is quite content in her position, but when the family she works for sets sail across the sea and the ship they are on sinks, she is suddenly thrown into an adventure worthy of one of her novels. Lillian survives, only to be mistaken as a noblewoman and kidnapped by a misfit band of pirates where she must keep up the ruse to ensure her safety. In order to escape, she soon befriends the captain, Kale, and crew and learns they are seeking an ancient treasure hidden beneath a seal that requires a noblewoman’s blood to open.
As Lillian spends time aboard Stardust, her feelings transition from reserved hostility to friendship, and she soon begins to fall for Kale. With the clock ticking on her new adventure, Lillian must make a choice. If she tells Kale the truth about her heritage she risks being marooned, or worse, but if they reach the island and her blood does not open the seal they will have lost their only chance at the treasure. As they battle rival pirates, the navy, and mutiny, Lillian must find a strength within herself she never thought possible.
Complete at 88,000 words, FROM STARDUST is a Fantasy novel written in the third person and is set on the fictional continent of Aarilya and the surrounding seas.

I know it's not in your prime target area but I've got a horror short story collection that I need some beta help with. My overall Goodreads rating is 4.35 and Amazon is about 4.2 so my work is polished and professional. The stories are not super heavy and there are some sci fi and fantasy influenced stories, even some humor. Its 48000 words and under 20 stories which average 3500 words each so as betas go, it is easier than most. I'm just looking for general feedback - what works and what doesn't.
If you want to know more contact me at bilrichardsonauthor@gmail.com.
THANKS for considering this.

I am seeking a beta reader for my completed fantasy novel of 110,000 words.
A revolution has ended. The last stand of the free mages fails with the deaths of Nora and Titus, leaving the rule of Queen Isa unchecked.
Serafina finds herself in a strange, yet familiar world, a world where mages are hunted and famine creeps over the land. And the wall surrounding Paltria nears completion.
With the help of a one-eyed dog and a stranger, Sera attempts to use her own magic for a source of good, despite numerous warnings. But a distant voice calls from the east, beckoning her to forsake all logic and find it.
Blindly, she stumbles on, unaware of the encroaching danger.
DM me if interested. Thanks!

I am seeking a beta reader for my completed novel, which may be up your alley. It is the darkly comic adventures of a young man born into a family of scientists, through childhood, grad school, and finally a faculty position at a dysfunctional university. Along the way he encounters dinosaurs, invisibility, a robot, a space alien, an accelerator built in a former sewer, a giant lizard, an experimental chimpanzee, a would-be supervillain, lizard people, and many others. His biggest challenges, however, are his friends, family, and the search for love. 149,000 words, but happy to get feedback on however far the reader gets--if you get bored, I want to know! I have published multiple stories in Analog, Asimov, and other venues, so this is well polished and professional, albeit closer to magical realism than traditional SF. Thanks! C W Johnson

I am Gargi and currently seeking a beta reader for my completed novel. It is a romance novel about two people with tragic pasts, one of them as an artist and another as a guitarist. My novel is about 52k words and published on Amazon Kindle for now.

I have a revised second draft of a 180,000 word sci-fi horror novel that I am prepping for a professional edit. I have some great beta readers, but am always happy to include more.
I think where you might be helpful is with weighing in on the accessibility of the "hard science" in the novel. I also have a bio/lab research background, and some of this comes through in the prose. It is a little expository in the beginning, and I'd like to soften it a bit, maybe remove some chunks of text that don't further the story. That said, a lot of my readers have no science background and got through it with intrigue and fascination.
So far, feedback has been very positive. Here are a few comments from existing readers:
"Hair raising and alarming."
"Will chill the reader's blood."
"Absolutely terrifying."
"Evocative, visual, poetic."
"Fantastically written."
The novel is very character-drive, so when I get a chance to update the synopsis, it will focus in on the main protagonists. While I have not come up with a synopsis yet that I like, here is a draft for now:
A group of paleontoloists unearths a revolutionary find in the heart of Africa that renews hope for the revival of dwindling bird populations across the globe.
Cloning technology sows the seeds of de-extinction, ushering a revival of some of earth's most iconic megafauna.
Climate change has become inevitable, prompting people to change their genetic makeup--and that of Earth's ecosystems--in an attempt to hold on to life as we know it as it slips like sand through our fingers.
Far beneath the Saharan sands of Algeria, physcists seek to uncover the mysteries of our universe. Back at the surface, a trio of colossal biodomes form a proving ground for seeding self-sustaining ecosystems beyond our planet.
Feel free to DM if interested and I will provide you a link. About 80% of the novel is up. I am currently revising the last fifty pages.

Hi Delaney,
I'm looking for beta readers for two of my short stories. One of them is 3k words and fantasy, and the other is 15k words and sci-fi. If you'd like to read either or both of them and tell me what you think, that'd be greatly appreciated!

Thank you for your offer to beta read. I'd love it if you were available to take a look at my 80,000 page sci-fi novel, Incidental Findings. Debra Hawthorne is a traumatized, unintentionally pregnant, newly graduated veterinarian dealing with imposter syndrome and assorted bizarre cases at the Veterinary Emergency Room of Appalachia. Xyla Moser, the hospital's best technician, just wants to do her job, watch anime, and hang out with Toupee, her cat. It's not in the cards. First, patients start to act strangely, then their owners quickly follow suit. People are losing track of time and some are losing all sensibility. Simultaneously, Debra and Xyla find that they themselves are falling back into earlier points of their lives and influencing the future. In the hopes of obtaining MRIs to figure out the cause of their symptoms, Deb and Xy bring their dog and cat as well as an injured seagull and a paralyzed chicken on a trip to the Mounds Epidemiological Center in Atlanta, Georgia. However, they swiftly find themselves recruited into the effort to pinpoint the source of what is being called the Temporal Pandemic. When all is said and done they'll contend with mentally inappropriate tigers, an infamous local bull, and their own moms in their earnest attempt to rescue some ill-fated gorillas (and consequently, the country) from a mad scientist/incel.
Warmly,
Erica Ellis

This fantasy involves the Fair Folk and their interactions with humans -- with the additional twist that the protagonists are lawyers who help humans make deals with the Fair Folk, protecting them from falling for loopholes and tricks. The book is Far From Mortal Realms: A Novel of Humans and Fae, and you can read more about it at that link.
If you're interested, please let me know by reply to this message or (even better) emailing me at kawyle@att.net. Thanks!

Not sure if you're still available, but I'm looking for a beta for a 114K space opera. It's in its fourth draft and is pretty polished, so I mainly just need overall feedback/impressions.
Here's a quick pitch:

I think your background as a scientist makes you a good fit as a beta reader for my light sci-fi writing style. All of my writing is set in the not-distant future. The stories are more character driven, and less reliant on references to futuristic technology. I have two short stories ready for a beta read. Both are about 7500 words. I'd really like to send you one, which can be via google docs.

I've got a modern dating book that bridges social science and self-help. It's 45k words.
Synopsis:
The Life Partner Equation details an innovative approach to finding love in the age of online dating, where options are more numerous than ever. It argues that we should embrace dating as a "numbers game"—not to fixate on figures, but to encourage us to be proactive in our pursuit of genuine connection.
By estimating the maximum number of people we might reasonably expect to date, we alleviate the pressure from individual interactions, allowing relationships to develop organically. As an avid self-experimenter, I tested this process over several years, taking meticulous notes along the way. After dates with 47 different people, I met my life partner. We’ve been together ever since.
The book targets young professionals, like my dating clients, who are disillusioned with apps and seek a new approach to finding love. Drawing on insights from behavioral scientists, psychologists, and dating experts, The Life Partner Equation offers a transformative mindset shift. It’s about equipping readers with tools and strategies to actively seek their partners and find joy along the way. I share vulnerable and humorous lessons from my adventures alongside my clients’ successes, offering readers a road map through the complexities of modern dating.
Message if interested!
Thanks :)

Thank you for the lovely offer to beta-read my novel. I'm not sure if you'll be interested in it. It is definitely not sci-fi or STEM-related, but it has a psychological factor you may find intriguing. If you're interested, please reach out. Below is more info.
Thank you for offering to beta-read my novel. I hope you will consider it. Below is my query (it is a work in progress at this point), but the book is finished.
My Pitch: Lily's decision to unearth traumatic memories of her childhood monster leads her to bury not only his body but his reputation, too.
(not so good) query:
Do Unto Others. At 95,000 words, it is a poignant exploration of one woman's journey to overcome the shackles of her past abuse through the therapeutic power of art.
Lily grapples with the lingering pain of childhood trauma that she has adeptly kept hidden in the recesses of her psyche. As a middle-aged woman, Lily desperately wishes to break free from its suffocating grip. She embarks on a therapeutic process that unexpectedly unfolds through her artistic expression. As she paints a four-panel painting, she unwittingly descends down a rabbit hole of self-discovery, revisiting the major events and time periods that have shaped her life.
The first panel of Lily's painting takes readers on an evocative journey through the early years of abuse at the hands of her stepfather, the tumultuous divorce of her mother, and the subsequent years spent in the shadow of her own personal monster. The second panel unfolds during Lily's search for structure and refuge within the church. Driven by societal expectations, she marries her first love, only to face the complexities of her own beliefs and endure a young divorce.
Panel three follows Lily as she embarks on a transformative journey of self-discovery, finding her authentic self through the liberating powers of friendships and travel. Meeting her husband and creating her family, Lily finds a sense of peace. However, Lily’s past resurfaces in panel four when she is triggered, compelling her to create a four-panel painting that becomes the foundation of her novel. Stalled by the publisher, Lily must confront her past by obtaining a letter of permissions from her stepfather. It is during this quest that she uncovers a shocking revelation about his undoing, which leads Lily to find closure in unexpected places.
Do Unto Others delves into the complexities of trauma, self-discovery, and resilience, which I am well versed in since Lily’s life mirrors my own in many ways. I’m passionate about telling untold stories in literature, the kind of stories that make us feel we aren’t alone. Lily's story details the raw emotions from pain with the therapeutic and transformative nature of art, offering readers a compelling exploration of the human spirit's capacity to heal.

I don't know how interesting this will sound so feel free to turn me down. At most you could say it has a psychological aspect.
If you have time and like the sound of it, I have a story separated in 2 parts of 70k each about the new generation of a crime family proving itself. It's a crime/romance/thriller with no spice, but very deep, enduring bonds between the characters.
It's about found family and making connections, choosing your people- and fighting for them. It's about persevering and making things work against all odds. It's about waking up every morning when you don't want to because you have people depending on you. It's about love.
The story contains graphic violence, though it is not by any means the entire plot.
It's more than okay if you want to read only the first part or just the prologue and decide what to do for yourself after.
Feel free to contact me on here or at my email: shteryk@gmail.com
Thank you!
Best regards,
Katrina

Hi Delaney,
I have a 160k YA fun fantasy full of exploration, adventure, and discovery that you might enjoy. Set in a world not so different from our own, it follows the struggle of Peter Calroy, an orphan with grand dreams, as he fights to rise up from the soot-stained streets of an avaricious empire. Across the treacherous sea, Kalee of the secluded Darkwind Tribe, indomitably curious with a penchant for sticking her nose where it doesn’t belong, struggles to find a place among her people. Extraordinary circumstances and harrowing adventure bring these two misfits and their disparate worlds crashing together in a tumultuous journey to save the ones that they love from mortal peril.
An engineer by education and a pilot by profession, I think the technical aspects of my story will really tickle your science bone. Particularly the care and attention given to the depiction of cloudships, massive vessels buoyed aloft by the precious gas known as celestium. Not to mention the other scientific exploitations of celestium explored throughout the story. (I won't spoil any here!) If you like strong female characters, you'll especially enjoy Kalee's arc (and I would truly appreciate a woman's perspective on it).
I'd be happy to share a few chapters with you to see if it's something that might interest you! Feel free to reach out to me at ballremlok@gmail.com.
Cheers,
Ball

If have a chance to look at my novel that would be amazing. If you check out the blurb i've provided, you might see why an engineering perspective on this story would be so valuable and interesting to me (ofc within the spec fic/light sci fi context). It is a literary speculative fiction novel called THE BRIDGE (90k). Below is an elevator pitch, blurb, content warnings, and some comp titles to give you an idea.
--
The Bridge, a monumental structure, stretches the breadth of The Atlantic Ocean and THE MAN is crossing it on foot to reach his love.
--
A story of determination, hope, fear, war, and love.
The Bridge stretches the breadth of The Atlantic. At one end, THE MAN. At the other, his Love.
Considered a war hero for his actions as a conscript, The Man was living quietly in his village wanting to forget his struggles, until one day he accesses a chat-room on what remains of the near-future internet. There he meets someone who gives new purpose to his life, but they live on the other side of the world. Torn between tending to his dying hometown and starting a new life, The Man decides to journey across The Bridge and embrace the perils that come with it.
The Bridge poses many unanswered questions and presents many impossible things. Those living upon the monstrous structure would sooner let The Man die than help him for free and The Pilgrims travel counter to his heading. The Man must reckon with who he is, what he has done, and what he can still do. We learn of his past and see what he will do to secure his future.
How far would you go for your Love?
---
Some of the literary voice and architectural magicalism of Piranesi (Susanna Clarke) with the political, near-future bite of The Wall (John Lanchester). Sometimes as dark, haunting, and biblical as The Road (Cormac McCarthy).
--
Content Warnings (possible spoilers):
Death, war, graphic violence, torture, references to/implications of SA (no details or depictions), PTSD and other mental health struggles, scenes of suspense and potential horror
--
Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Every generation in the royal family of the Queendom of Dirington, four sisters are born. And every generation, when the youngest sister turns thirteen, the girls are given three years to kill one another. This generation seems to be cursed. Each sister has different beliefs and ulterior motives, but they share a couple things in common: they all have softer hearts than a queen should, they share passion and fury, and rebellion rises in their hearts.
Firanna is the oldest and strongest sister, and she bears the power of the Fire Element. She struggles to keep a strong face in front of events that threaten to make her mask slip. She seems heartless and cruel on the outside, but inside she’s fighting to keep herself together. Watene is the next eldest and the weakest sister, with the power of the Water Element. She’s resigned herself to death, since her body is weak and she’s dying anyway. But when a certain boy enters her life she begins to think maybe she holds more power than she thought. The next sister is Ealinna, the Earth Elemental. She is the strongest and bravest, but while she isn’t against killing, a bond has begun to grow between her and her sisters. The youngest sister, Airabella, is the Air Elemental. Her unconditional love for all her sisters makes her a prime target and shows she’s unfit to be queen.
When the sisters meet, they can’t find it within themselves to kill one another. As they delve deeper into the queendom’s history, they begin to realize that it’s not their sisters they should hate, but society. Between romance, trickery, and the fight to survive, the four sisters weave an intensely emotional plot. And some day, at least one of them will take the crown. But who will it be?

Hi Delaney,
I am looking for some beta readers for my fantasy book, and I was wondering if you would be able to read my book? It is about 93K words and has 25 chapters. The story follows five warriors who must master their unique elemental powers and unite to confront an ancient evil that threatens their world.
Let me know if this is something you would have time to do and would want to do.
Thanks,
