I'm finding this to be a very tough review to write. I love the writing but the content was hard to read. Hard in that it was so painful a circumstance and despite the courage of the protagonist. My heart was just broken many times over and that mother of hers, gosh, I guess she was just one of her time and stuck there.

The protagonist herself truly grew throughout the novel. At the start, she was truly cowed into her shell but as a mother, she found that she could do all it took to save her children and from there, she found her own legs on stand on and walked forward with her chin high. Absolutely admirable! Probably should have rated this higher but my heart was too depressed...
