Morning guys, I started reading the following for bright red.

I finished a children's book (59K words, from ARread) but I think it's not orange enough to be a color:
Do you want us to post books here as well as in the spreadsheet?

Definitely not orange enough might work for black though.
Completion post can be done here or in the spreadsheet. 😀

Finished my first book. Will try to update ss.I could not update Rainbow tracking. So added to main book tracking. Book fits RT04

I thought we were only meant to fill the main page & the Caps fit them in elsewhere. Please tell me if I'm meant to fill in the mini-challenge tabs as well.

Only the main sheet is to be completed, the we as Cap/Co-caps will update the other tabs.
Jessica wrote: "Ok guys...I am feeling a little lost..first timer... And not understanding how this works..."Hi Jessica the main aim of towers is to read books. We have a minimum of 223 books a month to read as a team.
We do have a mini running alongside but there is no need to worry about this as every book read will slot in the mini somewhere.

Okie dokie, thanks!
Hello Jessica!I’ll explain some of the method to this madness tonight after work! It’s taken me maybe 6 or 7 challenges to understand some of the details:)
OK, so I read a book, then either1) Add it to the tracking spreadsheet and suggest some places it could work
2) Post here like this:
Title: The Activist, by John Grisham
Series/Translator: Theodore Boone
Pages: 289 (verified at 59K at ARreads)
Date read: May 1, 2023
Challenge possibilities: J, G, A, T, there's a council leader with dark secrets like Palpatine (for team name),
And if I plan to read a book I can post it as well but leave out the finish date?
I added When the Sky Fell on Splendor
to the spreadsheet, but when I hover over the title link, it show Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier... This is the link I was using: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4...
The cover is a lovely blue with green text

Yep that's right. If you are using the spreadsheet to post books and have read a book that needs a verified word count you can do this by adding a comment to the sheet.
Amy the book-bat wrote: "I added When the Sky Fell on Splendor

I know that this is a glitch that the Captains have spotted but as long as the link takes you to the book page it isn't a major problem.
:)
Yes please ignore the book that pops up in the hover of the link. Google (or goodreads we aren’t sure which) has gone a bit batty! But at least when we click through they work
3 Days into the challenge and we have a number of books completed.@Geri please check the edition for Against the Currant, the page count of the edition you have shelved is different to the one linked on the sheet.
@Skye please add The Lightning-Struck Heart to your TT Shelf with a read date.
@Dawn please add options on how your book might work for the mini
I started my first book finally yesterday
- I should be done with it a little later today. I will update the tracking list shortly

Basically, there are a lot of ways to earn points in this challenge. As you read a book, record as much information as you can on the first tab of the spreadsheet.
I'll go through the columns.
The amount of pages gives us ways to complete one tower.
"Spell - outs" give us ways to complete a different tower. (The Crayola Tower)
There are three different columns for spell-outs on our tracking sheet. There, you can write the first letter for:
The title of your book (Note - this is just the first letter of the book. If your book starts with a "the," you can use a "T" or you can use the first letter of the second word.
Series
Author - First letter of first or last Name
Character - First or last name or nickname of a major character - this is usually defined by someone with a "speaking part" and one that has a role in the plot of the story - not the bartender who just hands a drink to the main character for example.
Audiobooks: Here, you can also include the Narrator - First/Last Name - only if you read the audiobook
Translated Books: Translator - First/ Last Name - only if the edition you read was translated.
And then there's the mod tower, and the winners, which is explained in one of the first messages :) But I don't want to overwhlem you!
Focus as much as you can on that first tab of the spreadsheet, and be sure to ask any questions here. We'll help you out!

Thank you Melissa! To clarify, for characters, can we only use one character, or more if there are a few main characters?
I've started a book with 140 pages. Not the easiest one to keep my head around. I thought it would be a quick read, but hopefully finishing tomorrow.
Saar The Book owl wrote: "I've started a book with 140 pages. Not the easiest one to keep my head around. Hopefully it turns around for you!

As long as the characters are important to the book and have some sort of dialogue they can be used.
I just finished The Daughter of Doctor Moreau. 4 stars! I really liked it. Now I'll need to read The Island of Doctor Moreau to compare it to.
I posted a couple books and placed 2 more on the Crayola tab, but I am not sure if the you ladies (cap/co-caps) want me to do that or do it yourselves.
Vicki wrote: "I posted a couple books and placed 2 more on the Crayola tab, but I am not sure if the you ladies (cap/co-caps) want me to do that or do it yourselves."Please only put books on the main sheet 😉
I finished my first one :)
I read it for the audiobook challenge, and it is not my usual genre. So although I thought it was very sweet and very funny at times, it was also a bit long :o

I had quite liked this one - thought it was too cute haha. But I get it, it was a very typical dreamy romance.
Btw, I can no longer see my name in the dropdown list in googlesheet. Think things moved a bit.
Just added People We Meet on Vacation
which has a very striking orange cover but appears almost pink on the GoodReads page.
I've added 'Dragon and soldier' to the spreadsheet (not finished reading), but my name is missing? I can't find it.
Finished a few books but none with enough color to fit the rainbow prompts. Added them to the spreadsheet.
Louise wrote: "I’ll take a look at the spreadsheet issues when I’m back in from my pole fit class this evening. 😀"Few names had moved down so went out of the list cells. I have copied them up, hopefully it is fixed now.
Louise wrote: "I’ll take a look at the spreadsheet issues when I’m back in from my pole fit class this evening. 😀"Pole fitness sounds like a lot of fun!
I'm trying to convince myself it isn't raining that much and I should go do my first Zombies Run run -- it's a story you listen to while running and sometimes zombies are chasing you so you have to run faster.

It is loads of fun. I go to a mobile pole class where they also have hoop and trapeze. I managed to do a few pole spins and took a spectacular dive off the top of the hoop. 🤕
I like the idea of the Zombie run.

Saar The Book owl wrote: "I've read 'Red, white&royal blue' a while ago and I liked it, to my surprise."
It was very cute. And I like the author using a female divorced president with a mixed-race gay child living in the white house. Definitely appreciated the author trying to show what diversity could look like at the top!!
It was the whole drama of them being together that I found was dragged out. But, I also accept it isn't my usual genre and lots of people loved it so I'm not going to quibble haha

Zombies run sounds awesome lol and pole fitnes also seems fun.
I currently do cheer and hip hop competively in an adults team after being roped in at my daughter's dance studio. We have our first competition for the year in July and we will be competing in nationals later this year in Melbourne
Vicki wrote: "Where do I find the list of tasks our books might fit?"Hello Vicki!
Our tasks can be found on our spreadsheet. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
Our strategy has been to ...
read! There are so many spots where things can fit - it seems like folks are just reading and putting things in the open tab of the spreadsheet. The one that we are looking more closely at right now is the rainbow tower. - called rainbow, not to be confused with Crayola :) as I keep confusing them. Or reading something from the mod's list of books.
I hope this helps :)

No problem, so what do I do with The Notebook that I read from Raquel's MOD shelf? I see that it's been removed. I don't mind but I'm not sure how to know what to read for since I guess I am not reading for any specific task?
BTW I am having issues with some of my tags sticking so I just added The Notebook to my TT shelf again, so if it doesn't stick just let me know. Sometimes even though it shows as though it's there it will unstick, if you will.
