Jane (PS) | 24334 comments 1. Introduce yourself to your team. Let your team members know where you are from. This is a 'nice to know' when categories are announced and when team-mates can expect other members to post their book choices.

2. Deep Sleeper - reserve a couple of posts in this thread tracking your team's book selection and completion. (Alternatively they could convert a chat comment to the tracking post/s.)

3. Name your team. Using this round's theme, come up with a fun name. Given we are an open/public group with no age limit, so please make sure any chosen name is smart, not smutty ;)

Please PM your name to Jane(PS) by 29 March

4. If you have a private profile, please 'friend' your team-mates. This is really important, because without this, your team-mates can't see your shelves to select a books under option 2. (It will also help with one of the categories in this round!)

5. Please post your book selections/completions in the format provided below. (This format is also posted in both the Q&A and Sign-Up threads.) We need to know the week that each book corresponds to, the page numbers, and how the book qualifies including links to lists/shelves (where applicable), etc. I can't stress this enough. When in doubt - link it*!

* don't link to your review in your completion post - reviews in your completion posts should be included in full in that post.

You don't want to start reading a book and then find it doesn't meet the requirements because some information (eg page count or theme link) was missing from your original post.

I will be monitoring this and your book will not be considered complete until I am satisfied that your selection and completion posts comply with the format rules of the challenge.

Remember - you can ONLY change your book selection in the week that the theme is called.

6. You MUST check in with your team each week, ideally once the theme is announced. Please let your team know if you expect to have spotty communication or are on holidays or having an operation, etc.

7. When you post the completion of your book, you must post a review; enough for us to know you have actually read the book. Please don't link to a review. You must post the review in this thread.

8. Re-reads are allowed but you can't read the same book twice within this challenge.

9. There is no prize for the winning team - bragging rights only :)

10. Each week, the theme will be announced in the Q&A/Announcement thread. The full list of themes announced during this round will be maintained in msg 1 of that thread.

The Rule on the Pass Option
* Each team can only have ONE member using their pass each week.
* Each member can only use that pass once each 5 weeks.
* This means that one or two team members (dependent upon the size of your team) will miss using a pass in each 5 week block.
* No-one can use the pass option in the last week of the challenge.
* In the final week Option 2 has altered and I will be allocating each team another team from which their book selection must be chosen :)

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Key selection and completion post information. You must have ALL elements in your book posts.

For selection post Option 1 you must have:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Page numbers
How the book qualifies - please note which qualifying bookshelf/list you are using or the tags that justifies that it works.
If the theme is based off the bookcover, post the cover. If there is a letter count in the title, publication date etc, please note these details.

For selection post Option 2 you must have:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Page numbers
Name of the team-member, their star rating, the date they read the book.

For selection post Option 3 you must have:
Week #
PASS

For the completion post you must have:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Rating (1-5)
Review

Please DO NOT CHAT in these selction/completion posts. It needs to be super clear.

If you 'waffle' about your decided book - please REPOST your selection once you decide. DO NOT go back and edit your waffling post.

IF YOU NEED TO CORRECT A POST FOR MISSING INFORMATION or because the didn't qualify etc, please REPOST this information in a NEW post. I don't want to have to keep going backwards in the thread.

message 21: by Jean (last edited Mar 24, 2023 05:39PM) (new)

Jean | 869 comments Welcome to team 10. I’m Jean and this is the second time I’ve played PTP. I’m from North Carolina, so EDT. My goodreads account is set to private so I will send each of you a friend request so you can see my read shelf for option 2. Fortunately for y’all I have been doing a lot of challenges the last several months so have amassed a large selection for new, old, kindle unlimited, library reads, genres, and everything else in between to pick from. I honestly have no idea what you will see the most of on my shelves right now as I will read anything for a challenge! My preferred genres are historical fiction, romantic suspense and thrillers. I was an accountant in another life so I have zero creativity and will defer to y’all for team names. That is our first task, to come up with a team name. Ideas?

message 22: by Shan ~A~ (new)

Shan ~A~ | 1830 comments Hi team. I can't remember how many times I've did PTP...2?

I love challenges, and I prioritize the team challenges because we depend on one another for completion.

I tend to read a lot of romance (almost any sub-genre, the spicier the better, although I'm okay with slow burn and/or clean), but I will occasionally read mystery, thriller, urban fantasy, memoirs/biographies, etc... The only things I don't usually read at all are traditional westerns and high fantasy.

I'm excited for us to get started.

message 23: by Shan ~A~ (new)

Shan ~A~ | 1830 comments I forgot about team name ideas, because I'm not very creative, but here goes:

No rest while reading
Beauties sleeping reading
Just one more...Chapter (or Page)

message 24: by CB (new)

CB (cbg1203) | 318 comments Hi Team,

I’m Caitlyn! I’m from Louisiana. This is my 2nd time doing PTP. My profile isn’t private but still feel free to send me a friend request - I find I get a lot of books to continuously add to my never ending TBR list from my various friends on here!

My go to reading genre is Romance - and I’ll read just about any sub genre of romance. However I do tend to navigate towards a faster paced romance. Slow burns can sometimes be just too slow!
I also enjoy reading fiction and mysteries/thrillers.

Team Name Ideas:
No Rest While Reading (I love that Shana)

That’s it - I’m not creative at all! Lol

message 25: by Jodi (new)

Jodi | 332 comments Hi! Just checking in. I’ll introduce myself when I get more than a sec. :)

message 26: by Jean (new)

Jean | 869 comments So we haven’t had any more great ideas for team names put forth. I vote for No Rest While Reading as did Caitlyn. Unless someone objects that’s what I’m going with.

We have one player that hasn’t checked in that we are waiting on.

message 27: by Jean (last edited Mar 29, 2023 07:34AM) (new)

Jean | 869 comments While we are waiting for the first task, I have two posts above (messages 4 & 5), the first will have the current week’s called task with any links and the second will have the remaining tasks to be potentially be called. Remember any week you can choose to do option 2, read a book from a teammate’s read shelf with 3 or more stars read within 6 months of the call date. In the called task will be the qualifying time time period for reference. Each week you must post a selection book for the option you are doing and the book you are reading. Then when you are finished with the book you must post a completion posting. Jane has the format she would like you to use posted above in message 3

I personally took each week as it came last time and found a book that fit the task after the call until the last week or so. Then I went ahead and preselected SHORT books for the remaining tasks so I had a book ready to go for the last week.

♏Vanessa♏ | 1567 comments Hi there!
I'm Vanessa (from UK) and I'm living in Brazil (Rio de Janeiro) atm. As an expat's wife I'm frequently in between jobs as we move a lot, and I mean A LOT. I've started teaching english to Asian kids recently (even if my spelling is shocking) and it fills up the time, not to mention I listen to audiobooks whilst prepping lessons (win win).

2nd time taking part in PTP and I promised myself I'd do better this time around.

I love to hybrid read (is that how we call it???) reading whilst listening to books, just because the narration (when done well) gives the written word a different dimension. But, I often have to just listen to books or get Alexa to read for me as I do chores and get on with life.
Can't wait to get started!
Team Name Ideas: Just one more...Chapter (love this one) or No Rest While Reading (as 2nd choice)

message 29: by Jean (new)

Jean | 869 comments Called task for first week

Week # 1
Bookcover/link: The Villa
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Review: This is a dual timeline novel set in the present day and during the 1970s. Set in Italy, it is part murder mystery, part drama between to life long friends, the demise of one friend’s marriage and competition between the two very different writers. Not a thriller but still engaging with any unexpected twist ending.

Finished: 04/05
Rating: 4 stars
Review: I really enjoyed this story. It was full of magic, mystery, and suspense with a bit of a romantic element. Or should I say lustful element, as with everything else going on there was no romance, just two men who are strongly attracted to each and trying to find a way to balance that attraction while trying to stop whatever evil forces are at work.

The Vaudrey family was a piece of work, at least Lucien's father and brother, and I totally agreed with Lucien's sentiments about what happened to them.

It was a great start to a series, and I hope we get to learn more along the way about Stephen's abilities and how his connection to Lucien may affect that. Also, I hope the author continues to give us more Frank Merrick. I loved that he unconditionally has Lucien's back and has done so for the last 20 yrs.

Week # - 1
Bookcover/link Sweet Surrender (Sweet, #1) by Maya Banks
Rating (1-5): ⭐️
Review:
Wow this book sucked so bad. I wanted to DNF like the moment Gray was introduced as the MMC. His character literally made 0 sense. Nothing about his personality and thoughts = him? It’s so hard to explain but his character was horribly written. Faith was just obnoxious but her character was more believable.
I would definitely categorize this as an erotica. Didn’t keep my interest at all and the last 15% I skimmed.
What I do know is it technically ended with a HEA.
I would absolutely not read this book again. I do know I Own at least 2 other books written by Maya Banks. Unsure if I’ll read them or not.

One Sentence Audio Critic | 928 comments Hi...I am the first sub for this challenge. Jean and I are awaiting official word from Jane that I can join your team. Benita

One Sentence Audio Critic | 928 comments Hi...

I am your new teammate.

My name is Benita, GR ID One Sentence Audio Critic.

I did my first GR challenge late fall 2022, so know most (but not all) of the secret language and ritual ways of Goodread Challenges.

I am a semi-retired Univ professor, having most recently been attached to Auburn.

I do most of my books as audio, in some form, because of visual challenges.

I did not read a book for pleasure for over 25 years do to work load, but got back into pleasure reading when because of covid I got tired of waiting for the next season of Outlander, and read the entire Outlander series in 3 weeks.

My favorite sub genre is still historic fiction set in Scotland with time travel, but also read widely in general hitoric romance, contemporary romance, cozy mystery, positive life affirming small town family sagas, light Sci fci, funny paranormal light

My husband of 40 years died from covid late fall (62, fully vexed & boosted) so I took leave from the university for his illness and do not go back until May. So I do books, all day, every day.

I am using books, 2 15 year old cats and a recliner with massage as my approach to grief therapy. 😀

Benita
