Can you read a Kindle book without Amazon?

I was all set to start this book when my credit card company and Amazon started debating about a charge and Amazon locked my account. Now I can't access my library or the Kindle app. Is there a way to read my purchased books, downloaded to my computer, without the Kindle app?
