Here is my 3.86 rounded to 4 stars review of The Recovery Agent by Janet Evanovich:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Action-Adventure / Mystery
1st book in the Gabriela Rose series
Fun, light, and entertaining
Plenty of over-the-top scenarios. If you can just "go with it" and not try to make them something more substantial, it's entertaining.
I wanted a little more character depth.
Gabriela is completely different from Stephanie Plum so readers should expect significant differences.
My review for
A Family for Christmas in Pelican Crossing by Maggie Christensenhttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Spent a good portion of Sunday reading (and finishing!) Farewell, My Lovely by Raymond Chandler, a noir mystery classic. As with his first book, it was slow getting into this one, but the second half went fast. Definitely a different era!

I'm starting the week with the middle grade mystery
Framed! by James Ponti https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Most recently finished was The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly. It was marketed as middle grade fantasy, but is definitely NOT for younger readers. Younger teens age thirteen or fourteen maybe.

More investigation than thriller
Finished two nonfiction books yesterday.
* Science of Agatha Christie: The Truth Behind Hercule Poirot, Miss Marple, and More Iconic Characters from the Queen of Crime by Meg Hafdahl & Kelly Florence. This was okay for what it was, but should come with the warning that it contains a lot of spoilers. This is why I read Crooked House earlier in the month, as it was the only book of the twenty featured that I had not yet read. I started it in early October, reading a chapter here and there between other books, then read the last eight chapters yesterday.
* The Mythmakers: The Remarkable Fellowship of C.S. Lewis & J.R.R. Tolkien by John Hendrix. I don’t usually read graphic novels, but it was one I’d seen recommended and, as I have read both authors’ most well-known fantasy series. It was interesting how their early lives paralleled each other, how they met, and the camaraderie that followed.
