The Writing Retreat : Discussion Thread

Five attendees are selected for a month-long writing retreat at the remote estate of Roza Vallo, the controversial high priestess of feminist horror. Alex, a struggling writer, is thrilled.

Upon arrival, they discover they must complete an entire novel from scratch, and the best one will receive a seven-figure publishing deal. Alex’s long-extinguished dream now seems within reach.

But then the women begin to die.

Trapped, terrified yet still desperately writing, it is clear there is more than a publishing deal at stake at Blackbriar Estate. Alex must confront her own demons – and finish her novel – to save herself.

Through Part 1
(view spoiler)[ well it definitely feels like Roza is trying to re-create the Daphne situation with a demon! lol Like she's priming Alex to be ready to be taken over

Interesting that she's praying so much on dark thoughts

I don't know what to make of the other girls. I'm definitely not loving Taylor or Wren

oh and their necklaces. I hope that doesn't mean Poppy is first, the sacrifice. There was - bunny, pig, snake, spider. I don't know who I forgot. . .but pig and bunny definitely feel like prey while snake and spider feel like they are the killers (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ Man, I just do not like Taylor. and I can't believe she drugged them!! Keira's reaction was more than the others and I can't help but wonder why

and Wren is just awful. I hope she gets sent home. who takes someone else's story? she was an awful friend. I'm looking forward to Alex realizing that (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ wow, so they were trapped. I'm so glad she let them out but I *am* shocked she stayed. I would not have stayed

I can't imagine Roza really plans to let them take their own stories and live. At least, not in front of Yana or Taylor. I can't believe she shot Zoe/Poppy! 😮😲 Crazy twists and turns (hide spoiler)]

this one was so good!

(view spoiler)[ I liked the end, her getting out and moving. I love that they reached out to Zoe's family and plan to start a nonprofit in her name

I love that they are all publishing their books even if Roza had to get them to such an ugly place to write them. ha! I love that she's still channeling that rage to write the next one.

I'm amazing Wren made it out and that Keira survived as well but I think the ending was better for it! (hide spoiler)]
