It was a sample I read earlier this year and somehow lost.
It was fantasy / urban fantasy / erotic fantasy. It's not a horror book, despite the grim beginning:
The book started with a public execution of a woman, by a character named Reaper.
There is some kind of resistance / underground movement that this woman proclaims herself as part of before she is killed.
Two women are in the crowd, watching, one of them is the leading female character and feels strongly about what she sees.
There are group bonds and I think this is a world where Gammas serve Bettas and Alphas.
