Anna | 3 comments Currently reading heir of fire by sjm, and I'm quite liking it. Hahah I'm trying to catch up on all the sjm books so I'm also reading the last acotar book (but I'm reading acotar as audiobooks while I have the throne of glass books in pocket)

A Court of Silver Flames
Heir of Fire

Karin (karinwlindstrom) | 6 comments I'm currently reading lots of books about Japanese history and/or culture that I'm both using for an exam I'm currently writing and for the future where I need to decide on a subject of my thesis for the bachelor essay (I'm majoring in art history). Some books have been really great and others haven't given me much to work from. "Japan Emerging" by Karl F. Friday has been very helpful for both reasons.

When the exam is turned in by the end of the week I'm looking forward to pick up a book from my tbr and read something from another genre. <3

that sounds like quit the task to catch up on, I get so overwhelmed whenever I see how many of her books I still miss lmfao
Do you have a favorit (series or book) sjm so far??

message 7: by Lennon (new)

Lennon | 2 comments I'm reading "Tender Is the Flesh" and I'm 25% through.
It is very interesting and also INTENSE. It started very much in the center of everything happening so I've never yet felt that it was "boring".

Yeah, it's a lot, but I'm almost finished with the acotar series and I dont even know if I dare to start cresent city cause I've heard from a lot of people that it is very slow paced, and that basically nothing happens for the first 400 pages hahah.

My favourite so far is heir of fire (the one I'm currently reading). I'm finding I like the throne of glass series better than the acotar tbh :) Throne of glass is just so fantastic with all the elements of magic and the creatures and clans of witches (that's one of my favourite parts so far, it's so cool)

Jenna (jennasyrj) | 6 comments The Golden Fool by Robin Hobb. It’s not a typical genre (historical fantasy) for me, but it’s second part of The Tawny Man trilogy and I’ve read it so fast. So I guess I like it 😎

yeah, I couldn't finish crescent city lol, compared to some of her other work it really was so slow

Im with you on the heir of fire and the whole universe is just great and well thought out!

Astrid R | 7 comments I am currently reading Game of Thrones (A storm of swords) and Thus Spoke Zarathustra by Friedrich Nietzsche. The last one is such a hard read, and it makes me feel somewhat slow that doesn't quite grasp it. But when I read some of the reviews it looks like it's a common experience hahah

I won't have time to read a whole series/triology so I'm gonna have to choose a standalone. I'm considering reading another book in the Twisted series since they work fine as standalones. I read Twisted Games 1,5 week ago (it's not the 1st in the series but I wanted to read that more than the others and I ended up liking it) and it was my first time reading a book by Ana Huang.

ohh good luck with both! found game of thrones to be pretty challenging to get through lol. How do you like it?
And Nietzsche is just a whole other level, I've only really enjoyed his work when reading it with others hahha, so I get that you find it hard!

I looove game of thrones so far! He writes so good. I think it would be so much more challenging if I had not watched the series first, it's easier to remember all the people with the tv show in the back of the head haha. But it is quite time consuming yes!

suvi (sssuvituuli) | 6 comments I’m currently in middle of more books than I want to know, but the one I am actively reading right now is A Tale of Two Princes by Eric Geron. I honestly don’t like it too much, the plot is bit a meh but some of the characters are so lovely that I am pushing through with it^^’

both These Violent Delights and The Secret History is on my tbr. I read If We Were Villains last summer and loved the book so much and have heard it's similar to TSH. Didn't know These Violent Delights had the same vibes as TSH

Marte I just finished Cultish, which I unfortunately didn’t really like because I missed a bit of structure in the book which I think is quite nice in non-fiction haha. Now I started The wall of winnipeg and me because I am craving an easy romance book right now!

I cleaned my bookshelf today and found a few books I haven’t read yet that I’m going to try and prioritise when my life isn’t so hectic anymore. <3

It's so cool that your reading books about Japanese culture, not super related but have your read any Murakami? He's such a good author from Japan

Jenna (jennasyrj) | 6 comments I needed something different after many historical fantasy novels and now I'm back in my comfort zone. So political non-fiction it is. Currently I'm reading Invisible Women: Data Bias in a World Designed for Men by Caroline Criado Pérez. I love it , but my blood pressure might disagree with me ...

Yes! My friend got me Kafka on the Shore as a present a few years ago but that's the only one I've read. I want to read more by him though. I've also read a few books by korean authors and some of my favorites are Min Jin Lee's Pachinko and Michelle Zauner's Crying in H Mart. I borrowed a book from the library called Human Acts by Han Kang but I haven't had time to read that yet. Have you read anything by Murakami or any other Asian author that you liked?
