everything I know
- the main character is an Australian girl, moved to London after school to pursue fashion, working in a department store and living in a bedsit with a roommate
- she takes a boat across the channel to go to Paris to show someone her fashion designs - including a galah dress and a long dress with holes - peek-a-boo dress when you can't decide between a long and short dress
- loses her sketchbook on the boat in an old taxi called Gertrude belonging to twins whose names both start with 'v' and plan to visit every place that starts with the letter 'v'
- she ends up on an adventure after the book, then she meets other traveling around and one morning one of them - I think Alan - is gone, she decides she has to find him because she doesn't know what happened
- she begins the journey with someone called val
- along the way they meet someone called Ulla who is on her way to an ashram to meet billy the guru. Ulla also steals people's pockets and sews them on her own jeans
- they pass through Istanbul
- in greece - Athens? - they run into the twins again, who are out of money and need to fly home. In exchange for plane tickets, the twins give them gertrude
- they find alan somewhere in either afganistan or morocco, he ended up leaving with a friend and is now a follower of billy the guru. Alan plans to stay where he is, he likes the world away from modern technology
