gem | 2620 comments Sorry if this is a newb question, but I hunted all through the manual, Help section, and discussion forum and can't find the answer.

I've seen other librarians tell verified authors they can add books themselves, but can't find any information or guides about it on the site.

Librarian Manual: How to edit your book as a Goodreads Author only mentions edits, not adding new books. And the Goodreads Author Program page also only says authors can "fix" their book listings, not add new ones.

So...

1) just double checking that authors can actually still add books (maybe I was looking at old posts before the policy changed last year?), and

2) what's the easiest way for them to do so, like a button or link from their author profile, ideally one that pre-fills their author name with extra spaces if applicable?

-----------------

edit -- a verified author let me know that they were just able to add a new book from the Author Dashboard screen, so that answers both of my questions.

However it does raise a new question: why is none of this info on the Goodreads site (or if it is, how would one find it)? If it were more clear, it could help prevent unnecessary requests in the "Add new books" forum and leave more librarian time/bandwidth/energy for adding books from non-authors.

Perhaps a note could be added to this page: How do I add a book to the Goodreads database?

"Authors that have been verified through the Goodreads Author Program can add new books at any time by navigating to their Author Dashboard and clicking 'Add new book'." [Or whatever the button/link says.] :)

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ | 2310 comments Hi Gem

When I clicked on your link I saw this;

Please have patience while our volunteer Librarians work through the requests. While Librarians usually respond to requests within 1-2 days, these can take longer if there is a high influx of requests.

I will use a bit of restraint & say that 1-2 days is now wildly optimistic! Maybe change the wording to 1-2 months? (which is still wildly optimistic) & there should be something about GR authors being able to add their own books.

Like, " Goodreads Authors are able to add their own books, but that in many cases the bots will add their books for them if they wait a couple of days. If you need to add your own book please make sure you add the ISBN or ASIN otherwise the books will reimport." & then give the authors instructions how to do this. (with an up to date picture of a sample author dashboard)

& to be honest, I think it is best to refer GR authors who are having problems navigating their dashboard to Support. I have seen an author's dashboard (a few years ago) but most librarians haven't. :)

Edit: My suggestions should go in the authors' section of the manual. But I still think the 1-2 days needs to be changed to a more realistic figure for the general section.

Scott | 8783 comments At the bottom of every author's book list is a line that says "* Note: these are all the books on Goodreads for this author. To add more books, click here." Tell them to click there.

Ha! I knew that! (but I still think the manual needs updating)

Edit; Actually Scott's instructions, if not already in the manual, should go in the authors' section too. I know the Manual isn't necessarily a complete instruction kit, but with the backlog there is now, help would be appreciated.

Elizabeth (Alaska) I refuse to do anything with the HELP section, even when I like an idea. You can't down vote an idea, so the whole thing is skewed and not democratic.

I've done that a few times now. (they could..."

Thanks for the idea, I just submitted this: https://help.goodreads.com/s/suggesti... (Not approved yet so might not show up)

Post links to your ideas Corinne, I'll upvote them. :D

Here's another idea I submitted awhile back that could use a thumbs up:

May the odds be ever in your favor for getting your ideas implemented. ;)
