Looking for a somewhat specific-ish type of book

Does anybody know of any good fantasy (high or urban recs are both fine, idrc) or sci-fi YA novels that DON'T contain unnecessary, shoehorned-in romance? I'm not completely opposed to romance sideplots as long as, you know, the characters actually have chemistry and their feelings actually take time to develop and isn't right off the bat.

I was reading Scythe, and even though the plot interests me the thing with Rowan suddenly finding Citra attractive out of nowhere really ticked me off.

You could try Akrad's Children by Jeanette O'Hagan. There's not much romance of any kind in there, and what is there does feel natural.
