On the way to the attempt to rescue Dave, Sophia and Decker have the most honest conversation they’ve ever had. What do you believe was the most significant aspect of that discussion where they revealed their feelings about Dave and Tracy?

The most important aspect is that they have both found the one person they feel safe being who they really are with.

They would never have worked out as a couple. Decker's guilt and remorse over what happened between them were all he ever really felt for her as she would never see his real self as Tracy does. Sophia's hero-worship of him wasn't real. She knew he would never act on it and that he didn't love her - so she was safe "loving" him.

They finally talked and I just wish they had done it a lot sooner, but I don't think either of them was ready for a romantic relationship before this time. Decker wasn't ready to stop beating himself up over what happened between him and Sophia and Sophia just wasn't ready to move on from what had happened to her.

[Jonetta]

I agree with both of you. Decker would never have opened up to her without the sessions with Jo Heissman and the frank discussions he had with Tracy who gave him serious clarity. Sophia’s realization that she loved Dave freed her to see Decker as a man, not the forever savior she’d put on a pedestal.

What impressed me the most about it was how liberating it seemed to be for both of them. Now that they had realistic comparisons, it was clear that what they felt for each other wasn’t the “true love” they’d imagined. It was a wonderful scene.
