      On the one hand, it was a sweet memory that revealed a lot about Dave and Sophia's developing relationship while increasing suspense. On the other hand, it also had me waiting for the other shoe to drop the entire time. I'm not a fan of that.
    
      I loved his recollection and was glad that he and Sophia got together, and he was happy. But then when reality intruded, it was like a boulder hanging over my head. Having no idea when in the story this reality takes place it really ramped up the suspense.
    
      I agree with both of you. It was a nice memory, but we knew that eventually Dave was going to be captured and tortured. I kept waiting for it to happen.

Yes! That was it, a sense of impending doom for the entire course of the story. Every time something happened to Dave, I thought, “This is it!”
