Thomas Hillring (dakkster) | 28 comments Hello, I've tried posting in the "Adding new books and editions" part twice now and both times the post has been deleted without the book being added. The post is about a Swedish book called "Inkilad" by Erik Granqvist and Johan Esk. It's a perfectly normal biography about a hockey player who talks about abuses during hazing rituals at different levels of hockey. I've followed the instructions exactly the way when I've posted about adding other books successfully. The first post was a few weeks ago. The second one was a day or so ago. It's still not searchable, so I assume it hasn't been added.

Please help here. This new system is frustrating enough as it is, especially when your native language is so small that very few newer books are added. Why are my posts being deleted? I have received no message or reason.

Hi Thomas
Librarians are volunteers - we cannot delete any posts but our own.
The most likely possibility is that the system deleted it when things were very unstable a week or two ago - I know I had a review vanish when I got the unexpected error message & had to do it again.

Please resubmit your request in the Add a Book folder, following the template. Be aware that the backlog is now massive. If you have any other questions regarding site functionality please post in Help or contact Support (staff)https://www.goodreads.com/about/conta...

Thomas Hillring (dakkster) | 28 comments Yeah, I understand that and I appreciate all the effort from the volunteers. I really do.

But like I told you, I resubmitted yesterday or the day before that. Is there still a possibility that it was randomly deleted?

Anyway, I figured I should ask first before I start doing what feels like spam. But I'll keep resubmitting. Thank you for the answer.

I looked at your comment history, and there is only one add book request from you, which has been marked done. Feel free to resubmit your request.

If you look in this folder you will see another member has reported a similar issue just after you did. So there may be a bug & resubmitting may be a waste of time. Please contact Support at the link I gave you. The sooner it is reported the sooner Staff can investigate. :)

Elizabeth (Alaska) Carol probably has the better advice.

Which is why I said my posts had been deleted...

This whole system is such a hassle compared to before. But fine, I'll resubmit yet again and if that doesn't work, I'll contact support.

That is not what Carol suggested. Please contact support first.

Had that recently that my posting got autodeleted (within seconds) in a group I am moderator. Removed things I thought might be triggering bit by bit and posting stayed when I removed the word directly after the ... (wasn't important so a space might have been a solution too)
Guessed that was a spam protection reacting too harsh.

Oh yes! Good call. I do think staff need to know about that, because the spam protection is annoying enough without deleting posts.

Thomas Hillring (dakkster) | 28 comments I checked the book description I copied from the publisher again and no, that's not it. No ellipsis. Thanks for the suggestion though. I have contacted site support for now.

It doesn't have to be ...

If any . without a space following is detected the system regards it as a link to a website and disallows it.

This has been the case for some time though I do remember years ago website links were allowed in description that is no longer the case.

ETA
I don't know that this . information applies to your problem but it does apply when Librarian or author is adding description to book information.

In your case I think you made the correct decision to contact support.

Thanks for being diligent in looking for cause and solution.

Thomas Hillring (dakkster) | 28 comments Rechecked and again, no. Unless it counts for a period followed by no space and two enter presses.

I don't think that applies to posts in a group. Only to descriptions on the book page.

Agreed.

lethe | 16359 comments Lachgas just told you that she had a different experience.

Elizabeth (Alaska) Perhaps...that wasn't the problem.

Thomas Hillring (dakkster) | 28 comments I just tried it once again. It gets posted successfully and then when I try to refresh the page a few times it showed the first time and then I got "page can't be found" the second time, less than 20 seconds after posting successfully. I took screenshots and I'll get back to site support, because they haven't done anything.

Hi Thomas

Be aware that if this issue needs developer time, response time may be slower. There are a lot of issues & not many developers!

Thomas Hillring (dakkster) | 28 comments Yeah, I imagine debugging something like this is like finding a needle in a haystack.

Hi all! Sorry for the delay, are you still experiencing issues to post your book request?

I think the disappearing comment bug was fixed some time ago. Haven't recently experienced it or seen it mentioned here or in the other groups I'm in.
