Plot vs writing style

Judith Geary The Goodreads fairy pointed out that I started reading this one 60 days ago. I read others in the interim (more about those later), but the plot kept bringing me back. What kept me putting it down was the awkwardness of the style. I guess my expectations were too high, since I met Block's co-author at a writers conference and his presentations were great! He was billed as author of over 400 books (all but two under pseudonyms) so that raised my expectations as well.
Having piled on the disclaimers, I'd say this book is worth reading for the "message" and the complexity of the plot. I wish it were more based on truth than it surely is, as I wish all three religions based on worship of the god variously called Jehovah, Allah, and Elohim would put aside their cultural differences and concentrate on their commonalities.
