I've had this book on my shelf for literally years so it's time to read it finally!! Blurb about it from Google Books - "As he examines everything from species survival on islands to vegetarian piranhas, Quammen's funny and offbeat essays offer a unique glimpse of the natural world and, at the same time, clarify the larger biological issues and their effect on humankind."

I enjoyed this book! It's the first I've read by Quammen but I found his writing to be direct, funny, and insightful. I don't always love the essay format in a book but it works for this. This book is from the mid 1980s though, so some things are outdated, like wondering if California Condors still exist - which they do! I'm curious to see what more recent books he's published and would like to read more by him.
