I'm just gonna keep changing my name, like a CAPTCHA...
(legit) Iain
Iain (fo sho)
Iain (I swear)
Who knew the BR Form needed an authenticator & two-step verification... a code has been texted to your cell phone, you have 60 seconds to input...

Captcha is evil. Like there is a piece of the traffic light in this picture, don't tell me it isn't!
Of course, if (real) Iain keeps changing, all we have to do is mimic his patterns... Iain (for realz), (no really, this one is) Iain, (dammit guys stop using my name THIS is) Iain, and so on.
Just popped in to say I also really enjoyed this one. I listened to it on a drive recently and although I had moments of "this is so cliche" it was a great cozy-feeling story. I would be interested in others in the series in the future. Hopefully my life has slowed down enough to start buddy reads again.
I would really appreciate that! I rarely get to an actual computer, and it wouldn't let me do it from my phone app... I do everything on my phone at this time... Thank you so much!!!

I love her already! Only up to chapter 6 and she's one of my new favourite fictional characters. The snark is real and in here for it.
LOL "The Snark Is Real"--I kind of want that as a bumper sticker. ^_^I had an in-person book club last night (I made folks read Children of Time and it was the first book that everyone liked--yay!) and I recommended Slouch Witch to the crew... I have at least two local converts too. I had to tell them about the cat.

Children of Time is one of those books where describing the book can scare people away... intelligent enormous spiders... but anyone that likes science can enjoy it from many different directions... zoology, sociology, computer science, etc...

PET. BITCH!!! Hahaha! I just had a conversation with a friend who absolutely adores her cat, and she said "I wish Smokey could talk" with this dreamy expression on her face... At which point I burst out laughing!!! Ivy is so right. People would have hated her if she had sold the spell that makes cats talk, because they would find out how selfish and disdainful of humans they are:)))
Children of Time is definitely a book you have to read in order to find out if it's something you would appreciate... The premise is too little when ti comes to the blurb, but so vast when you actually read it! It is a book of the human condition more than anything else and it is brilliant!

I think that's been my response to everyone in the early chapters of the book now... it's just so startling and hilarious... especially on audio...

re: Children of Time--one Youtube review I watched said that if you love spiders, you need to read the book. And if you hate spiders, you need to read the book. I guess people who are noncommittal about spiders are off the hook.
@Choko and Iain I have a friend who has a ton of cats, absolutely adores them, I'm imagining her using this spell and being absolutely horrified at what little shit heads they really are :D.
I don't have pets, but like seeing them in stories...
I've never really lived anywhere that wouldn't cost me extra to have pets, and then there's the actual costs of having a pet... I'm allergic to cat hair... and any pet would be cooped up inside for half the day while I'm at work... and I feel barely able to walk on my sore feet after a day of work...
And I generally blame my childhood, where I was the only one consistently feeding the household pets & taking them outside when needed, half the time...
My family had a bunch of pets... many dogs... many cats, too, because who really cares about my allergies, and a bunch of lizards and hamsters/gerbils, and maybe some fish...

If you did ever want something low maintenance Iain that wouldn't set off your allergies, I had a leopard gecko years ago and he was brilliant. watching him hunt his dinner (bugs) was fascinating. I've always had pets and I love them but now I have a baby the work to take care of them properly is so much harder and I often wish I didn't have them honestly. But I love them so they're stuck with me.

I just saw "low maintenance leopard" and was like "that sounds dangerous" :D

LOL yeah, I think dinner'd be you. Or your guests....@Iain--I can see how that kind of childhood would put a person off pet-owning...

Yes, very much looking forward to karma coming knocking on that character's door!
Agreed... I was a bit lost, after reading a dozen other books, but with Nirkatze's refresher, I wholeheartedly agree :D
finished! @Nirkatze I was disappointed by that too, hopefully there's more sweet justice in book 2. is there a BR for that?
Charlie wrote: "finished! @Nirkatze I was disappointed by that too, hopefully there's more sweet justice in book 2. is there a BR for that?"Yes they are scheduled for 7/3 & 8/3.
I loved the ending with the cat! I may have got super over excited and started on the audio for the next book. Overall this is actually my least favorite series so far I've read by the author. Still fun though!
So, her other series are good? That is great news! We will have them to look forward to...I loved the eloquence of Brutus at the end, hahaha!

That would defeat the purpose, wouldn't it? LOL
We're supposed to write (real) Iain and just hope that no one notices it's fake... ^^
