I found this to be a fast, easy read, written well enough to enjoy, but not well enough to give it more than a 3 1/2 rating. Both romances seemed more convenient than convincing, and bad guy Quinnie was off-stage too much to be tensely fearful. If this is a series beginning, I might read the next one--or not.

I agree. The book started off strong, but ultimately the ending (and the romances) felt a bit contrived.

I agree with Pat in that it was an easy read and I didn't have to think too much. I'd just finished The Strings of Murder where I had no idea who the murderer was so I needed something light.

I felt the book was more like the set up for a series where you get the background and backstory for the characters and that's why the plot was needed (don't know if that makes sense). But I enjoyed it and will probably read the next book to see if Forrester and company can make it in the PI business without so much help from his police friends.
A competantly written book from an experienced auther I've never tried before.

I give it an Okay.
I liked the start of this book and the idea of Matt Forrester carrying on his Dad's business. However, I just couldn't get along with it after a while. The characters don't work, the romances were so cheesy and the plot was poor in parts. I have read another by this author and felt the same about it. By the end I was glad to finish it and won't be reading any more in the series. The author always gets huge amounts of praise for each book, but I'm not sure why.
