Violent Ends question

After reading the whole narrative I really couldn't see Kirby as just this terrible human being. He just seemed like someone who was broken and couldn't find control over his life. I'm curious though if anyone else felt this way. His morals just felt like they were constantly conflicting. Seeing his inner struggle and how at points he was a good person made it difficult for me to "hate" him as many would for what he did.
