I have noticed the past few days that many elements and a few times the whole site has been down. Does anybody know why this may be happening? I'm wondering because Goodreads has not released anything saying/acknowledging that it is/has been down lately.

Since you are not staff/a moderator of this group, you shouldn't be posting announcements. Also, this isn't an announcement but a question.
It's a very good question but I doubt anyone here will be able to answer.

Actually, I posted about the combine function being down. I see now that thread has been closed. The combine function request (confirm combine) still hangs and the request must be resubmitted. I cannot post in that thread because the thread was closed.Combine still isn't working properly when combining titles with a large number of editions.
If that's what they were trying to fix, they have not yet succeeded.
EDIT: To answer the original question, I believe the site going down was because they were doing maintenance on the combine function.
The site has been going down a lot lately, seems more like a server error than maintenance. And I have already tried the GoodReads HELP group, and have received no answer.

&, like this group, Help is mostly staffed (can't think of a better word, sorry) by volunteers. We can't answer what we don't know.

I don't know about the Help volunteers, but GR tells librarians very little. & we have have little to no influence on anything GR decides to do.

I did just hear from them. They thought combine was re-instated yesterday. They couldn't get the reported combine to go through either.
Goodreads Book covers are not loading now.
