I actually think this one was my favorite of the trilogy, which is so rare for me! (Usually the middle of a trilogy seems a tad soggy to me...even The Two Towers is the weakest of LOTR.) I have some fantasy-loving kids so pre-read a LOT of fantasy for them. I knew pretty much right away how the first book would go, and I just enjoyed the journey. In this one, I had no idea what was coming next and was soooo invested in their relationship. The Ruby Prince definitely fleshed out so many of his motivations for his behavior in book one. And the family dynamics were something else!
It's a good thing my husband was gone on a work trip, because I finished this one at my normal bedtime and paused about 30 seconds before starting book 3 and reading until 1am!
Yeah, I've never been quite so glued as I was in this book, and book 3 was right behind it in terms of, "Arrrgh, I MUST know!"
*guiltily raising my hand as part of the 1AM club with this trilogy* 😶😏
