I just finished reading the (excellent) vintage Carrigmore Castle series, and can confirm the correct sequence (two books were published in the same year and are listed alphabetically on Wikipedia, but they are out of sequence, as I found out the hard way!).
The correct series order is:
1. Carrigmore Castle - 1954
2. Tiffany and the Swallow Rhyme - 1956*
3. The Cuckoo at Coolnean - 1956*
4. Strangers in Carrigmore - 1958
5. The Tobermillin Oracle - 1962
*they are BOTH listed here as 1 Jan 1956. Neither of my copies (Faber and Faber, first ed.) have dates let alone years written inside. I don't believe they were released at the same time, but perhaps only in the same year, and it defaults to 1 Jan.
I can confirm that this is the correct sequence by way of a spoiler: In Tiffany and the Swallow Rhyme, their mother, Mrs. McKean, is ill and told to take bedrest, and they are sent on holiday without their parents to stay with a family friend. They are told there will be a 'surprise' for them upon their return - (view spoiler)[that surprise is the birth of baby Janet, who apparently none of the kids realised was in utero... (hide spoiler)]. In The Cuckoo at Coolnean, a minor plot point is when (view spoiler)[baby Janet, crawling around while all hands are harvesting gooseberries, goes missing for hours, and is eventually recovered (hide spoiler)]. I read these out of sequence and was at first confused as to why (view spoiler)[baby Janet (hide spoiler)] wasn't mentioned in re: vacation plans/care considerations. ;) I quickly realised why, and that these two which were published in 1956 were listed out of order.
Is that sufficient information? WorldCat doesn't give dates (just '1956'), so I can't find a secondary source. I'm the only person to have reviewed them, though 2 others have read the final book as well.
Thanks very much. She has other series, none of which are listed on GR (Dawks is one, and The McNeills at Rathcapple has at least one sequel), but I haven't read them yet (hard to come by).
