Thank you for helping with this!
That edition of Louise de la Vallière happens to be the most popularly shelved of all editions—perhaps this means it can't be separated out, or that it needs to be done by a Superlibrarian? I can move the thread if necessary.

The default edition will not appear in the separate tool.
Unfortunately all of the editions have to be separated as a group from it rather than separating it from everything else. I don't think there is a shortcut to doing that unless someone else knows something I don't.

Oh, thanks! Now it makes sense!

I know it's a ton of work, but are you still able to separate the default version out? Since it's the most popularly shelved edition of that version of the book, it really is crucial that it be separated from the non-Oxford editions.

Here I am. I did it. I think everything should be ok now.

Lovely, thank you so much for your hard work! Only, would you please move the Amazon edition (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...) to the non-Oxford records (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/8...)? While I am not sure that the Amazon edition matches those other records, nor that those other records match each other, I do know that it does not match the Oxford edition. (Or it could be separated into a record by itself, but as Amazon is based on the public domain version I think it is probable that many of those other records match the Amazon version. None of them are very popular on Goodreads when compared with the Oxford edition, either.)

Ugh. Well, I guess it can't be helped, and you're right that any new editions will probably be added to the most popular (the Oxford) edition. Is it possible to add any sort of librarian's note to hopefully prevent anyone from combining them manually?
Thanks again for fixing this!

Thank you!

Would another librarian please separate them out?
Perhaps they will be less likely to be combined in the future if they are added to separate series (which GR has confirmed would be appropriate), as I've suggested here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

No, that won't help, as that is not visible on the combine page.

Shame. Out of curiosity, do you know what would happen if someone combined books from two different series? Would it mess everything up, or would those different editions still be a part of each separate series?

Can you not add to the series by ISBN/ASIN?

No, that is not what I mean. I mean "what would happen if someone combined books from two different series?".

It would show on both series pages, of course.
Please separate them from one another.
Amazon edition (ASIN B0083Z4PTQ):

Oxford editions:

It's unclear whether the other editions match one or the other, though it is likely that they use the public domain text and thus follow the Amazon breakdown; therefore, I would tentatively suggest removing merely the Oxford editions.
(If you're interested, this is part of a larger cleanup of the Three Musketeers series: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...)
