It wasn't on my tbr, but I do also realize it will be a tough one.

I love this list. I found many more I’d like to read. Hoopla has many of the books that my library doesn’t have.

Does anyone remember if there are Subdue the Shelf rules that apply to Manga and graphic novels?

LibraryCin | 11663 comments Oh, I've picked out one more alternate from this list.
Convenience Store Woman / Sayaka Murata

Amy | 12907 comments Cosmic - nothing on your list happens to match my plan for this month, which is to knock off a birthday Candle with this Japan tag. But I just wanted to say Welcome, and that I am really glad you are jumping in, and hope we can do a buddy read another time.

Thanks Amy.
I am kinda new to this group. What does "knock off a birthday Candle with this Japan tag " mean?

I have [book:Japanese Farm Food|13544281] cookbook, I've enjoyed looking through it but never managed to actually use it. It is so beautiful. I'll love to see your take on it.

Cosmic, this is our 15th anniversary and so we have a birthday challenge putting candles on our cake:

Amy | 12907 comments One of our two year long challenges is the PBT Birthday Challenge, since we are in our 15th year. So there are 15 "quests" or Candles to blow out. One of them is to read one of the books from an older list that was created of Top 100 PBT Fiction Books. I knew that with either Japan or Music, I could fulfill that. So my book is the Wind Up Bird Chronicle.

Our other year long challenge is Subdue the Shelf. The Trim the TBR Challenge is an optional one, carried over from a year that we did it as a year long for the entire group. There are other mini challenges, but many people who join just stick with the monthly tag for a bit, and do what they can. Some only do that anyway. I hope that helps.

Hello Cosmic! Welcome to PBT . . .

I am one of our four administrators, so just wanted to say hello.

This year is the 15th year we've been in existence, so we are celebrating!! You are welcome to join our Happy Birthday, PBT challenge if you like that type of thing (no pressure though).

The details can be found here:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Every year, we have two year-long challenges, but new members are welcome to join them at any time.

Robin P | 5728 comments If you choose to participate in the "Birthday" challenge and by chance you have already read something in 2023 that fits one of the "candles" , you can count that. For the "Subdue" challenge, you would just start now, since it involves using dice moves. These are of course optional activities. So is the Monthly Tag for that matter, but I have often been surprised at how a book I was going to read anyway ends up fitting.

I joined this group because my GR friend, Book Concierge, (who I have since happily met in real life!) recommended it as a very active group - and it sure is that!

Cosmic Arcata Thanks for helping me familiar myself with your group and your challenges. I was looking for a "game" to help me with reading more books this year. I may work on my game board this week.

I have some of your candles books in my library so I will definitely put them on my board.

Happy Reading.
