Thirteen year old Jeremy is being sent from Seattle to New York City to spend the summer with his mother while his surgeon father heads to Africa with Doctors without Borders. Jeremy doesn't get along with his mother who is bipolar and doesn't stay on her meds. On the plane he meets Harry who is suffering from dementia and has decided to head back east where he has lived most of his life. Both Harry and Jeremy are "birders" and are doing their best to avoid being found by either of their families.
I was really surprised by this book. It was a book that I had on my kindle that I think was free. The story was both funny and touching. I thought the subject of Harry's dementia was handled very well. It's a difficult subject and not an easy one to portray in a book. I don't think anyone who hasn't dealt with it can really know what a devastating and horrible disease Alzheimers is.
