Rhonda (rhondapickens) | 10 comments Sidney Sheldon-esque 1970s era idea of female empowerment; set in NYC, woman (maybe a photographer's assistant) gets a nose job, changes her name to Hershey, wears silk pajamas to an event and suddenly becomes the model of the moment. Feted and celebrated, a star at Studio 54, does drugs, then faces an identity crisis and I think leaves modeling and becomes a serious photographer. I remember reading it from my mother's book club edition. I've googled the character name and only get stuff about the chocolate. That reminds me that in the book it is considered very clever that she gives people a Hershey's kiss candy when she meets them. Maybe a romance with the photographer she originally assisted?

Rhonda, are you still looking for this book?

If yes, let us know. You've given some good details. You can bump your thread every month or so to move it back to the top of the Unsolved folder where more people are likely to see it.

Rhonda (rhondapickens) | 10 comments Still would love to know this book. Not sure how to "bump your thread"?

You just did. Any comment bumps the thread (pushes it to the top of the queue). You can also just type "bump."

Rhonda (rhondapickens) | 10 comments thank you for the tip!

Ayshe | 4721 comments Catch a Rising Star sounds likely?
CAN A GIRL from a little mining town in Pennsylvania find happiness as the movie industry's biggest sex siren? Not if she's as dull as Danielle Branton draws her. Hershey Barton (nee Hester Burton) changes her name and her nose on her way from photog assistant to movie star, but she never rises above a placid, dry manner, observing what is going on and happening to her rather than being and doing...

Rhonda (rhondapickens) | 10 comments Ayshe, you doll! I think that's it! I'd forgotten the Hershey Bar(ton) part, but now that sounds very familiar! The cover on Goodreads looks familiar too. I can't wait to read it again and try to see why I remember the story 40 years later!!! The review you quoted makes it sound horrible, but back then I thought it was very glamorous! How on earth did you find it? I'd googled and got nothing.

Thank you so much for using your time to solve one of those little things that bug me!

Rhonda

Ayshe | 4721 comments Great! I found it seaching for "her name" hershey intitle:"books " in Google books.
Yes, the review sounds harsh, I copied it for the plot details only.

Rhonda (rhondapickens) | 10 comments Thanks for the search tip! I'll try that next time! Even if it turns out to be an awful book, I am so happy to no longer have the mystery of its title niggling at my brain! I found it for a penny plus shipping on Amazon, so will know soon whether adult me agrees with the reviewer or teen me! Will let y'all know! Thanks again!

Moved to Solved but the shelf function is not working. The next mod who reads this can see if the bug has been resolved.
