Hi friends,

We're just about to finish up with our Fall and Winter Collection reads, and Spring is just around the corner. I've been thinking about a historical fiction theme for our next collection and would like to propose the following books. If you're interested in joining, take a look and see if the books on the list are accessible. I have some backups if there are any that prove hard to find.

March
The Alienist (Dr. Laszlo Kreizler #1), Caleb Carr (US – New York)

April
The Hangman's Daughter, Oliver Pötzsch (Germany – Bavaria)

May
Havana Bay (Arkady Renko #4), Martin Cruz Smith
(Cuba, Havana)

June
A Rising Man (Sam Wyndham #1), Abir Mukherjee
(India – Calcutta)

July
The Devil in the Marshalsea (Tom Hawkins #1), Antonia Hodgson (UK - London)

August
Dead Man's Blues (City Blues Quartet #2), Ray Celestin
(US - Chicago)

I tried to get around the globe a bit and generally align the settings with spring and summer months. Let me know what you all think.

Happy reading,
Lisa

Pam (pmunro) | 176 comments The only one that isn't available in audio is Havana Fever, the May choice.
Also, July's choice was a group read in March 2022.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I swapped in two alternates for the ones mentioned, May and July. Let me know if these work out.

Thanks!
Lisa

My husband has been after me to read that book for a while. No time like the present.

Yes, he liked it. He really likes the author. I've suggested he join the discussion... he might! Win! He's a smart cookie and teaches literature... this may not be "literature" but I always enjoy his perspective.

Laura | 2964 comments The Alienist is one of the best books I have EVER read. I won't be reading it again with all of you TBH. I was young when I read it, and only bought it at the bookstore because the very cute guy working there recommended it, and I awkwardly was trying to flirt with him! However, still to this day, it remains one of the best books I've ever read, but it was very graphic and the images are still in my head. I do recommend it however!
