Small Spaces by Katherine Arden is a middle grade series, but it's still pretty creepy. Especially book 2, Dead Voices. Though I advise reading in order else you won't understand anything for the most part

I would recommend Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer for biological horror. (This recommendation stands even if you've seen the movie; they're nothing alike!)

Also House by Frank Peretti. I read it ages ago as a kid and have not been able to bring myself to reread it since because it creeped me out so bad. It's character-driven.

Check out House of Hollow . I lit had nightmares and I am, to this day, afraid of closed doors. It might not be frightening the first half (it's more like a mystery first) but when you finish it, I promise you'll be creeped out (atleast a little, if you're immune). You can also check out House of Salt and Sorrows but it isnt as creepy because it's a twelve dancing princesses retelling. Wow, I just realized both of them starts with "House of", wierd...

would def recommend Frozen Charlotte by Alex bell, its the first book in the red eye horror series.
One of the best YA horror series I've read.

The most terrifying book I read is one that was translated from German. It's called "The Satanic Mill" by Otfried Preussler. It won numerous awards. Another one that haunts me is called "The Scarecrows" by Robert Westall. Both of these books I read years ago and I can still remember how scary they were.

The "Scarecrows" sounds really good Kitty, thanks I just read about it. I'd recommend "Dark Matter" by Michelle Paver - very creepy! Stephen King's "The Mist" is a great novella. I'd also be remiss if I didn't mention my own YA book "Howl of the Ice" described as such: "Stranded in an ice fishing ghost town on a collapsing frozen lake, two 14-year-olds find themselves trapped within a mythic entity’s nightmarish hunting grounds."

Stephen King absolutely. There are also the classics like Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, but more recently I came across a dark (human nature scary) story called My Sister Rosa (I recommend reading the synopsis first to give you an idea of what it is about as it can be quite dark).

A recent read that I had to pause because I was reading at night and I got spooked: The Twisted Ones

Another I really enjoyed was A Night in Terror Tower, read it a few years ago and genuinely gave me goosebumps (no pun intended I promise)
