August (Dean's Version) | 118 comments Small Spaces by Katherine Arden is a middle grade series, but it's still pretty creepy. Especially book 2, Dead Voices. Though I advise reading in order else you won't understand anything for the most part

Sue Miz (suereads2030) | 9 comments just go for the king of horror Stephen King

message 11: by Alita (new)

Alita | 10 comments I would recommend Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer for biological horror. (This recommendation stands even if you've seen the movie; they're nothing alike!)

Also House by Frank Peretti. I read it ages ago as a kid and have not been able to bring myself to reread it since because it creeped me out so bad. It's character-driven.

Rebekah (omgitsrebekah) | 16 comments The Final Girl Support Group. It is horror but I personally think it leans more towards the thriller side! Still good & had me thinking about it for a few days!

Divya (divyasreemanikandan) | 181 comments Check out House of Hollow . I lit had nightmares and I am, to this day, afraid of closed doors. It might not be frightening the first half (it's more like a mystery first) but when you finish it, I promise you'll be creeped out (atleast a little, if you're immune). You can also check out House of Salt and Sorrows but it isnt as creepy because it's a twelve dancing princesses retelling. Wow, I just realized both of them starts with "House of", wierd...

Iriinesia ♡ (iriinesia) | 188 comments Perfect!

message 19: by Skard (new)

Skard | 1 comments I just finished reading White Smoke by Tiffany D. Jackson. It was pretty creepy! Definitely worthy of the 'horror' tag lmao.

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

would def recommend Frozen Charlotte by Alex bell, its the first book in the red eye horror series.
One of the best YA horror series I've read.

message 21: by Ana (new)

Ana Palacio | 4 comments Cell by Stephen King- I was afraid of answering my cell phone after reading this book!

message 22: by olivia (new)

olivia | 10 comments This book isn't necessarily super scary, but it was so good! Carmilla by Joseph Sheridan Le Fenu.

message 23: by Amity Horror (new)

Amity Horror (amityhorror) | 11 comments PenPal, Off Season, The Troop

message 24: by Kitty (new)

Kitty Griffin (kitty241) | 1 comments The most terrifying book I read is one that was translated from German. It's called "The Satanic Mill" by Otfried Preussler. It won numerous awards. Another one that haunts me is called "The Scarecrows" by Robert Westall. Both of these books I read years ago and I can still remember how scary they were.

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

All the goosebumps books by R.L stine are amazing (they still give me chills)

message 26: by amiraa (new)

amiraa shaista | 3 comments Stephen king is your best bet :)

message 27: by Christian (new)

Christian Raymond | 5 comments The "Scarecrows" sounds really good Kitty, thanks I just read about it. I'd recommend "Dark Matter" by Michelle Paver - very creepy! Stephen King's "The Mist" is a great novella. I'd also be remiss if I didn't mention my own YA book "Howl of the Ice" described as such: "Stranded in an ice fishing ghost town on a collapsing frozen lake, two 14-year-olds find themselves trapped within a mythic entity’s nightmarish hunting grounds."

message 28: by Ruthie (last edited Apr 08, 2023 04:02PM) (new)

Ruthie | 1 comments Stephen King absolutely. There are also the classics like Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, but more recently I came across a dark (human nature scary) story called My Sister Rosa (I recommend reading the synopsis first to give you an idea of what it is about as it can be quite dark).

max (sad girl autumn version) (doitsushine92) | 31 comments A personal favourite of mine is It, it gave poor teenage me nightmares for a long while

A recent read that I had to pause because I was reading at night and I got spooked: The Twisted Ones

Another I really enjoyed was A Night in Terror Tower, read it a few years ago and genuinely gave me goosebumps (no pun intended I promise)

message 30: by Christian (new)

Christian Raymond | 5 comments Nice Max. While The Twisted Ones ran out of gas a bit for me, really liked the creatures and horror "mechanism."

max (sad girl autumn version) (doitsushine92) | 31 comments I'm always a sucker for folklore horror so the creatures were my favourite aspect lol

message 32: by Christian (new)

Christian Raymond | 5 comments Me too Max, love folklore horror and "new" takes on mythic creatures in what I read and write. May want to check out:
