The female main character is recently divorced and a single mum to a boy and girl. The ex husband is a rich lawyer that is using child support to hurt and make the children and her life harder and is basically dead beat at this point.
The 3 of them seem to live in a cottage on an island if I remember correctly.

It is not from The Bride Quartet, The Circle Trilogy, Gallagers of Ardmore, The Key Trilogy, in The Garden Trilogy, Night Tales, Three Sisters Island or Time & Again. I'd have to go and look at each book description for the rest of her series to say if it was in any of them.

Doesn't seem like it's those 2 either. I think this story is set in the modern world with no magical elements I think.
And the love interest may be a resident of the island long before the FMC moved there with the kids.
