I didn't think it was the stepfather because it seemed too easy that way but I almost wanted it to be Roni because she seemed mean. I didn't think it was either but were put in to distract us.
They seemed so obvious that I didn't want to put them high on my list but Roni just was too perfect a suspect to let go. Finding out they were involved before Alana disappeared wasn't a surprise.
Yes and yes.
This is my own little thing about this book...but it seemed like Novak played Roni's character all over the place. We were expected to believe she was a good stepmother to them but then not to the others. She was mean but then understanding. It seemed like I was always trying to figure out what she was playing at next.

Exactly! April had good reason to have issues with this woman. But, in the end, we were supposed to believe all was right with Roni. It left me unsettled.
Yeah, same here. Claire first cant accept she has anything to go with her mother's disappearance than after what April tells her she suddenly sees Roni as a not so nice lady. Then when it's not her she's the loving stopmom?! Seriously Roni and Leanne seem so aloe so I get why they like each other. Ugh! Sorry for rant lol
