Thea has never been accepted by the WAGs (wives and girlfriends) other than her relationship with Nessa, Del’s wife, because they believed she trapped him when she got pregnant. In three years, Gavin didn’t seem to know anything about that until the confrontation with Rachel at the awards dinner. How could that be? Why wouldn’t Thea have shared this with him?

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1203 comments Thea must have bought into the WAGs' script of how she must support her jock husband, even if they did not accept her as a genuine wife to Gavin. Gavin loved Thea, and he must have just assumed that everyone accepted that he was more than willing to marry a woman carrying his beloved child. So it never occurred to him to wonder how Thea was doing in this regard.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments Gavin didn't pay attention, and Thea and Gavin had a major communication problem. When he was with the team, it was the ball players in one room and the women in another. Thea is a good actress and never let on that she wasn't accepted. Besides, she had her mother telling her that she had trapped her husband, which confirmed their opinion.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1203 comments Oh, Sharon, I completely forgot about her mother's contributions to the struggles.

It’s hard for me to believe that these wives and girlfriends didn’t grouse about Thea to their partners. I’m not sure how he could have missed this. A simple question to Thea or his teammates would have told him a lot. He dropped the ball here.

When my husband had to attend my business functions from time to time, I had people set up to look out for him, especially for extended trips. I made certain to introduce and connect him with people who would look out for him when I wasn’t around. That’s the least Gavin could do for Thea. He left her in a boat without a motor and expected her to paddle.

Yes, Thea should have let him know she was having problems. But, it’s his world and he should have paved the way better.
