A mostly amusing and clever, tongue-in-cheek read for fans of classic English murder mystery series such as Miss Marple and Midsomer Murders, which I devoured along with my breakfast this morning.

I did think the section on the butler could have used a bit more work. After all, isn't it always the butler?

And a note of warning - don't do the quizzes! I only got one answer right, and it still killed me.

Not to be taken seriously, unless, of course, you are planning on visiting a quaint English Village.

I wonder if a body has ever been concealed in the thatch of one of those lovely chocolate-box cottages?

I read this a couple of years ago and loved it! I have recommended to many friends and given as a gift to others.
It reminded me of other books and many tv shows that I watch. A fun and fast read, not sure if there are any spoilers in it as it's not a whodunit.

This is a quick read but infinitely humorous....loved it. Especially the pictures--blood everywhere. :-)

Oh, and of course, now I have no desire to visit any "quaint English villages" because we know what goes on in those small places! teehee

What a delightful, whimsical little book!

"My advice: Stick to urban areas. Do not go to the countryside. Dispose of this book, and continue on with your life."

And it goes on from there: "English villages follow an ancient blueprint from a simpler time, when babies drank beer and everyone had a sheep. Time may march on elsewhere, but not in the village. They don't like change in the village." 127 pages of subtle, extravagant whimsy, covering every act and every bit of food and drink, every type of building, and every person found in an English village. Small enough to be read (& chortled over) in one sitting, the book covers every murderous contingency to ever be conceived in an English village. You have been warned . . .

This really was a quick read! But it’s more like a ‘picture book for grown-up.’ That being said, I quite enjoyed it. I’ve been working my way through the ‘Midsomer Murders’ TV show on Britbox. So I laughed at the book often and then was laughing when I went back to watch another TV show. If you thought Cabot Cove was bad (I’m looking at you, Mrs. Jessica Fletcher), then you DEFINITELY do not want to go vacationing in the English Countryside! Incidentally, I loved how the illustrations were reminiscent of Edward Gorey.
