Help me find this for my mother in law: A book set with a female character living in a swamp/swampy area

Hi all,

My mother in law (absolutely won the in law lottery with her!) is desperately seeking a novel that she read and was then borrowed & lost by an acquaintance 🥺

What we know:
- it has a main female protagonist
- she lives in a swampy area (and no, it is not "Where the Crawdads Sing")
- it was set in 1800s or early 1900s and follows the main character's whole life
- the ending has something to do with the main character's son
- no clear ideas on publication date except that the book was written no later than the end of 2018 (my mother in law had some tragic circumstances in that year and is certain it was prior to then)

Any suggedtions greatly appreciated!
