Up to chapter 5 (view spoiler)[ I'm liking it so far. I'm a fan of the classic sci-fi style, and the dry humour brings a lot of reminders of Vonnegut or Asimov. It's a fairly bog standard plot so far (aliens destroying Earth) but this was one of the originals, so while it's something I've seen before, it wasn't common when it was published. I'm having fun reading it, and I can't see where this plot will go. (hide spoiler)]

Up to chapter 12 (view spoiler)[ Wait, so Earth is actually destroyed? I wonder if there'll be some weird time warp thing to restore it. I'm confused as to what Zaphod Beeblebrox's motivations are in stealing the Infinite Improbability ship-the science of which I do not understand whatsoever, which may be the aim. I did enjoy one particular funny exchange-edited down, "I do wish I'd listened to what my mother used to tell me", "What did she tell you?" "I don't know, I didn't listen". I also found the Vogon poetry part really funny! (hide spoiler)]

Up to chapter 20 (view spoiler)[ I love this humour! The overenthusiastic doors and computer, and the manically depressed robot. It's so odd how Zaphod, Trillian, Arthur and Ford are all interlinked! The planet Magrathea sounds fascinating-something about old, abandoned places really piques my interest. Or is it abandoned? I'm curious to find out. (hide spoiler)]

Up to chapter 30 (view spoiler)[ There's a lot more to Zaphod than I thought! I wonder what was so important he's hiding it from his own awareness. I finally get the reference to the meaning of life being 42 now! The mice being the real intelligent beings is another one of those odd aspects to this book. (hide spoiler)]

Done, and I really liked it! I'm glad I've finally read it. It's just the type of amusing science fiction that I love.

Did anyone plan on continuing the series? I have now acquired the other 3 and want to get them done as quick reads :)
