Mohamad | 121 comments I mainly use the CAWPILE rating system if I don't what exact rating to give a book!

message 3: by Evelyn (new)

Evelyn I never had a rating system til this year when I bought a Tiktok book journal. I otherwise normally am naturally a generous rater, used to freely give five stars, because I always enjoy what I read, though of course for different reasons.

I realized I mostly based my rating system off my urge to read it - like, am I resistant to putting it down, or do I need breathers (like pick it up every other day or so) because it can be much for whatever reason? This has really helped me reevaluate my reading standards. :)

5 ⭐️‘s - Breathtaking; struggled putting down; binge-worthy
4 ⭐️’s - Amazing; needed breathers; would read again
3 ⭐️’s - Appreciated; had to push self a bit; wouldn’t exactly read again
2 ⭐️’s - Maybe strong start to end poorly; surprised I completed
1 ⭐️ - Shocked I bother reading; why isn’t it a DNF; kudos to me honestly

moony :3 | 17 comments I don't have a specific rating system. I just rate books based on how much I enjoy them, sometimes I consider the writing and the pace of the story. I give 5 stars to books I enjoyed, made me feel emotional, or left a big impact on me. I barely give 1-star ratings cause I'm just generous I guess LMAO jk

sophie | 76 comments ratings are so weird and random and just depend on the book bc i don’t know if i should date them by how well written they are or my likes bc i feel bad rating books like three stars just bc it wasn’t for me even tho it was still written very well and wasn’t bad i just wasnt the right audience. ratings are just very subjective

Mei ☽︎ (meigothic) | 106 comments I'm pretty easy to please, so if I had a lot of fun with it and/or, ofc, if I really loved it, I usually rate it 4 or 5. 😂 I normally would reread 5s.

I rate a book a 3 if overall it was fun, there were a good amount of nice moments and I like at least one of the two main characters enough BUT there were a number of standout issues. Or if it was overall just average middle-of-the-road reads.

Books drop to 1 or 2 if I start getting distracted by things I'm annoyed by (usually related to writing style, plot, pacing or character personality/actions) and especially if I'm just not really feeling the characters or not jiving with the writing. The difference between 1 and 2 for me is if it starts feeling like there's a LOT I'm annoyed by and there's basically rarely a feeling of enjoyment. I don't rate my DNFs.
