URLs are not copied from one edition to another, so cleaning up a URL has no visible effect on the resulting record. It only affects the invisible record of the merged edition.
I found surprisingly little policy about deadnaming. In fact, current policy is to keep the first name a book was published on, no matter what. On the other hand, I do subscribe to primum non nocere, so if they do not wish their deadname to be listed, while I would not actively remove a deadname, I don't find it in myself to knowingly add it either. I may run a question to support and ask them how they wish to handle it.
