The Game...
(This game follows the events of the original Jumanji film.)


Part 1 - The beginning!


1) In 1869 two boys try to get rid of the Jumanji board game by burying it. Wolves howl in the background. - Read a book tagged 'wolves' or with the letter 'W' anywhere in the title/series name/author name.

2) Fast-forward to 1969, Alan Parish rides his bike whilst some other boys chase him - Read a book tagged 'bullying', with bullying mentioned in the blurb, or with the letter B anywhere in the title/series name/author name.

3) A worker at Alan Parish's factory (Carl) shows Alan a sneaker, and tells him that he believes everyone will want them - Read a book with shoes, trainers, or feet on the cover.

4) "Alan!" Alan asks his father for a ride home, and his father tells him to face his fears, and that he won't give him a ride home - Read a book by an author, or with a character whose name starts with the letter ‘A’ (for Alan)

5) The sneaker goes into a machine because Alan left it on the conveyor belt, and Carl is fired - Read a book which has a zero in its average rating/number of ratings/number of reviews.

6) Alan goes outside where he is beaten up by the boys who were chasing him. He hears strange drumming music coming from a nearby building site - Read a book with soil/earth/digging equipment/something buried, or a box or trunk on the cover. 7) Alan discovers an old box, inside it is the Jumanji board game. He takes it home where he looks at it and decides it's pretty cool - Read a book with the letters 'C', 'O', 'O', and 'L' anywhere in the title/series name/author name.

8) Alan's parents tell him that they're sending him to boarding school. He tells them he's never talking to them again! Alan decides to run away - Read a book set in a school, or a book tagged YA, middle-grade, or children's.

9) Just as he's leaving, the doorbell rings and his friend Sarah is at the door. Alan asks her to play Jumanji and she refuses. She throws the dice down and the game counts this as her turn! - Read a book by an author, or with a character whose first or last name begins with the letter S.

10) Jumanji moves a piece forward, and gives them a message about "Winged things" - read a book with the letters ‘B’, ‘A’, and ‘T’ anywhere in the title/series name/author name.


Part 2

11) Alan accidentally rolls and gets told "in the Jungle, you must wait" Alan is then sucked into the Jumanji board, Sarah is chased by bats. - read a book with trees on the cover, or with the letter J anywhere in the title/series name/author name.

12) Fast-forward to 1995, and a lady (Aunt Nora) and her niece and nephew (Judy and Peter) move into the old Parrish house, which seems a little run down - Read a book with an edition published before 1995.

13) Judy lies to the realtor and tells her that they hardly knew their parents and that they wrote a goodbye note that was found floating in a champagne bottle - Read a book with the letter 'L' (for Liar) anywhere in the title/series name/author name.

14) Peter goes into the attic where he finds some large bats. Aunt Nora investigates, then decides to call an exterminator - Read a book with the letter 'X' anywhere in the title/series name/author name.

15) The exterminator tells Judy that there are no bats in the house, but that people think that Alan Parrish was murdered in the house - Read a book tagged 'murder', or with the word 'murder' anywhere in the title/series name/authot name/series.

16) Judy tells Aunt Nora about Alan Parrish being chopped up and hidden in the walls, and tells her that that story was not a lie - Read a book with an average rating of 4 or over.

17) Judy and Peter are supposed to go to school, but hear the Jumanji board game drumming in the attic - Read a book with the letter 'D' anywhere in the title/series name/author name.

18) They open the Jumanji board game and try to move the pieces, but they're stuck. Luckily there are two more playing pieces - read a book with the letter P in the title/series name/author name.

19) Judy rolls and gets told "A tiny bite can make you itch" before they're attacked by giant mosquitoes. - read a book with something that flies on the cover, or a book with the letter I (for Insect) anywhere in the title/series name/author name.

20) Peter rolls and the kitchen is suddenly full of mischievous monkeys - Distract the monkeys by reading a book with food on the cover, or with the letter F anywhere in the title/series name/author name.


Part 3

21) Judy realises that it's Jumanji that's causing the mosquitos and monkeys, she reads the board and finds out that these things will only disappear when the game is finished - Read and finish a standalone.

22) Peter rolls again, and suddenly there's a very large lion trying to eat them - Read a book tagged 'horror' or with the letter H anywhere in the title/series name/author name.

23) Judy and Peter run from the lion, and find a grown-up Alan Parrish on the second floor of the house! - Roll a five or an eight – read 800 pages of your choice (can be made up from more than 1 book.)

24) Alan traps the lion in Aunt Nora's bedroom, then goes to his childhood bedroom to look around - Read a book which you have read before.

25) Alan is finally home, he goes to his room, then loudly thanks Peter for rolling a 5 or an 8! - Roll a five or an eight – read 500 pages of your choice (can be made up from more than 1 book.)

26) Alan runs around calling to his parents but can't find them. He asks Judy and Peter who they are. Judy explains to him that they live in the house now, and that everyone thought he was dead - Read a book tagged 'dead', or with the word 'dead' anywhere in the title/series name/author name/blurb.

27) Alan runs outside and is nearly run over by a police car. He asks the police officer (Carl) what year it is - Read a book with an edition published in 1995.

28) He explains to the policeman that he's not ill, he's been in Jumanji! Judy explains to Carl that Alan is their uncle who's been in Indonesia, and suffered a recent head injury - Read a fiction book.

29) Monkeys get into the police car and take off in it, Carl runs after them - Read a book with a car on the cover, or with the letters 'C', 'A', AND 'R' anywhere in the title/series name/author name.

30) Alan runs to the Parris shoes factory to find it closed down. A homeless man tells him how his father lost interest in the business after his son ran away - Read a book from an unfinished series.

Part 4


31) Alan goes to the cemetery where his parents are buried. Judy and Peter explain that their parents are dead also - Read a book tagged 'ghosts' or with the word 'ghost' anywhere in the title/series name/blurb.

32) They witness a car accident and the paramedics who help the injured woman whisper about 'strange bites' - Read a book which has an edition published in a leap year (1972, 1976, 1980, 1984, 1988, 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020, 2024)

33) They get into the injured woman's car, only to have a mosquito trying to get through the glass to bite them - Read a book with the letters 'B', 'I', 'T' and 'E' anywhere in the title/series name/author name

34) Alan begins driving, although he doesn't know how to drive - Read a book which is second in a series (it's only the second time Alan has tried to drive).

35) They go back to the Parrish house where Judy tries to convince Alan to continue playing the Jumanji board game with them, he says NO - Read a book with the letters 'N', and 'O' anywhere in the title/series name/author name.

36) Alan cleans up and puts on some clothes. Peter annoys him by saying that he doesn't want to play because he's afraid - Read a book with the word 'Afraid' anywhere in the title/series name/author name/blurb.

37) Peter says they don't need him, but Alan says that they need him 'lions and monkeys and mosquitos are just the start' - Read an author's first published book, or read the first book in a series.

38) Alan says he'll watch them play, and Peter tells Judy how he used reverse psychology like his dad used to - Read a book with a 3-letter word anywhere in the title/series name/author name.

39) Judy rolls the dice but the game doesn't respond. Alan realises that there are 4 pieces on the board, they're playing the same game he started in 1969 - Read a book with an edition published in a year ending in a 9.

40) Alan knows that it's his friend Sarah Whittle's turn next, so they go to find her, she passes out from the shock of seeing Alan again - Read a book which has a 2 and a 6 (for 26 years) in the ISBN/ASIN.


Part 5

41) Alan picks up Sarah and takes her back to the Parrish house. They show her the Jumanji board, but she doesn't want to play - Quick buddy read a book! (GBR also count)

42) Sarah calls her doctor to tell them that she's having an episode because she's sitting with the little boy who disappeared 26 years ago - Read book which has two words starting with the same letter in its title or series name.

43) Alan tricks Sarah into rolling the dice. The Jumanji board game tells them "they grow much faster than bamboo" – Read a book with flowers on the cover 🌻, OR with the letters 'F', 'L', 'O', 'W', 'E', and 'R' anywhere in the title/series name/author name.

44) They stand together quietly, and Alan tells them to stay far away, but one of the flowers grabs Peter and tries to eat him - Read a book you got recently (since December 1st 2022)

45) Peter smashes a case on the wall that contains a sword, and cuts Peter free - Read a book which you didn't pay for (could have been a free download, a gift, or borrowed).

46) The police officer (Carl) finds his crashed car, which miraculously starts! He heads over to the Parrish house to investigate Alan further - Read a book written by an author with a pseudonym.

47) Sarah tries to leave but Alan insists she stays and plays - Read a book tagged 'DNF' or 'did not finish', or 'abandoned'.

48) Alan tells Sarah that he's been stuck in Jumanji for 26 years, and Sarah tells Alan that she was just a little girl, and she was too scared to keep playing - Read a book that scares you (or that you expect to scare you).

49) Alan rolls the dice and gets a warning about a hunter! Alan is scared - Read a book with the word ‘hunt’ anywhere in the title/series name/author name/blurb.

50) A hunter turns up (Alan calls him Van Pelt), and begins shooting some kind of rifle at them - Read an anthology of at least 3 short stories.


Part 6

51) Alan throws the sword at Van Pelt and it hits him in the shoulder. He pulls it out and keeps shooting until he runs out of ammo - Read a book from a series of at least 8 books.


52) Alan and Sarah argue about Van Pelt, and about how everyone thought she was crazy when Alan disappeared. Judy rolls anyway to get a cryptic message about thunder - Read a book which has a word beginning with 'Th' anywhere in the title/series name/author name.

53) It's a stampede!!!!! Run! - Read a book with the letters 'R', 'U', and 'N' anywhere in the title/series name/author name.

54) They survive the stampede, but a pelican scoops up the Jumanji board game, and flies off with it - Read a book which has the letters 'F', 'L', and 'Y' anywhere in the title/series name/author name.

55) Van Pelt goes into an ammunition store, and comes out with a new gun - Read a book published in 2022 or 2023.

56) Peter manages to rescue the Jumanji board game from the pelican by hanging upside down and fishing it out of a river - Read a book which has 1 or more hands on the cover.

57) Van Pelt with his new gun begins tracking Alan - Read a book which has more than 1 title (foreign editions do count).

58) They begin walking back, but Carl drives by and sees Alan. He tells him he's taking him in for questioning and puts him in his police car - Read a book with a 3 word title.

59) Peter takes his turn, but cheats! the Jumanji board game says a rule has been broken, and Peter begins to turn into a monkey - Help! I’m turning into a monkey! Read a book with a title which starts with the first letter of one of your teammate's names to save them! (Each teammate’s name can only be used once!)

60) Alan confesses to Carl that he knows who he is, and apologises for getting him fired! - Read a book which has 9 letter long word (for apologise) anywhere in the title/series name/author name.

Part 7

61) The stampede is raging through town, and Van Pelt steals the Jumanji board game from Peter - Read a book tagged "missing", or with the word 'miss' anywhere in the title/series name/author name/blurb.

62) Van Pelt takes the game with him into a discount store, and Sarah and the kids follow - It's a discount store! Read a book which has the number 1 anywhere in the average rating, number of ratings, number of reviews, or ISBN/ASIN.

63) Sarah tries to get the game back, but the hunter starts firing his new gun - Bang! - Read a book with 4 words in the title.

64) Peter bites the hunter, and Judy shines a red light into his eyes - Read a book with something red on the cover (You can check this at https://labs.tineye.com/color/ )

65) Carl finally believes Alan when he tells him who he is. He unlocks the cufflinks, but Alan then handcuffs Carl to the car - Caught 🙈 - Read a book with a six letter word anywhere in the title/series name/author name.

66) A message comes over the police scanner about a woman and 2 kids being hunted in the discount store, and Alan then jumps in the car and drives there to rescue Sarah and the kids - Let's hope this is a quick ride - Read a book with less than 100 pages (150 middle-grade, 300 illustrated).

67) A traffic cop passes them, only it's actually three monkeys with a gun - Read a book with three or more authors/translators/illustrators/narrators listed.

68) Peter spills detergent on the floor to make Van Pelt slip, then blasts him away with some gas canisters. They get the game back! - Read a hardback edition of a book.

69) Van Pelt explains that it's Alan he wants to kill, because it's Alan who rolled the dice - Read a book with a number in the title.

70) Carl and Alan crash into the discount store, causing shelves full of cans to crash on top of Van Pelt - Read a book which has at least 100 reviews.


Part 8

71) Aunt Nora is driving home when she sees the stampede and isn't sure what's going on. She's surprised by a monkey in her backseat, and drives off the road. - Read a book which has the word 'road' as part of the title or series title.

72) Peter is upset about turning into a monkey. Alan tells him to "face it like a man", only to realise that he's turned into his father - Read a book which has editions in more than one language.

73) Peter whispers to Alan what's upsetting him, and it turns out he needs his pants ripping to release his tail - Read a book from a series of more than 4 books.

74) They return home to find the Parrish house full of mist and vines, Alan comments that he "feels right at home" - Read a book which has a building on the cover, or the word 'home' in the title or series name.

75) Carl gets his car working again, and sees Aunt Nora on the side of the road. He stops to talk to her, but his car is then crushed and pulled away by a giant vine - Read a kindle book.

76) Carl and Aunt Nora start walking towards the Parrish house - Read a book with a 7 letter word in the title/series name/author name.

77) Sarah needs a 12 to win but she rolls a 3 - Read a book by an author who has 3 names.

78) They get a warning about "a monsoon in your lagoon! - Read a book with water or rain on the cover (or 'rain' in the title/series name/author name/blurb.)

79) Water gushes from everywhere and they decide to get to higher ground - Read a book with at least 600 pages.

80) They see a giant crocodile coming towards them, and end up on top of a chandelier trying to get away from it - Read a book which has the number 5 in its average rating/number of ratings/number of reviews.

81) Alan wrestles a crocodile to save Sarah - Ah! Read a book tagged 'romance'.

82) Carl and Aunt Nora turn up at the front door, Carl kicks the door and it gives way, sending a huge flood of water out with it - Read a book with a 5 letter word anywhere in the title/series name/author name.

83) Alan is nearly sucked away with the water, but Peter is able to grab him at the last minute - Read a book in less than 2 days.
